Mine is quite loud, and it makes my passengers any myself a little uneasy. It should like someone is playing bongo drums thru the speakers...I simply cannot believe how loud and resonating the sound is.. almost like it is happening in a reverb chamber.

I am not aware of any problems with the ICE versions Doc.

The vent ducting acts like a reverb chamber unfortunately.

This is an interesting observation. The i5 is my first EV, and it’s also one of the few that’s an electrified ICE car (meaning it’s a 5 series) rather than something like a Tesla which was designed as an EV. It makes me wonder, if we had schematics, what all differs between the ICE and BEV versions.
Just like where stuff is. I mean I know it’s got to be somewhat different, I just don’t know where it all is. Meaning, how is that ductwork/positioning different? Maybe it’s all closer to the dash in the EV. No idea. On the home front, I think my dealer is still waiting for parts also. Stuart |

Here are some interesting pics of my M60 getting the "knocking" A/C part replaced. My service rep is great and knew exactly what the sound was. He told they had fixed a i7 and i5 with same issue. I was relieved after hearing that. I was initally hesitant to do the fix b/c he said the entire battery has to be dropped to get to the part that need replacing. He assured my the tech would have been extensively trained. These pics show the battery dropped from bottom of my M60. Fingers crossed.

I brought my car in for the knocking issue and the service advisor just told me pretty much the same things:
1. There is a service bulletin for this concern. 2. Parts are not readily available, but must be ordered. 3. It will require removing the high voltage battery to access the HVAC ducts, thus requiring a few days in service. |

Anyone have a copy of the service bulletin? I'm starting to hear it pretty regularly now.
