...each need mode of transportation takes time to ramp up the required infrastructure to get everything to a 'not have to worry' state. When we travel in ICE vehicles,...we don't give it a second thought of being able to gas up everywhere and anywhere. However, at the onset of migrating from the horse and buggy to an ICE machine,...I'm sure there was great worry of not being able to get gas in the country side of a given area in the country.

Now that the BEV wave is starting to take off more, the infrastructure is all that's needed to put it over the top. Just think,...the grand kids of your kids may very well not be able to buy a new ICE powered vehicle.

Oh, and about that RAM Charger,...yeah, an RC with a V6 to charge the battery!,...they are claiming some 700 miles of range between the battery and ICE! Personally, I think it's a waste of a V6 ICE,...as Dodge could do the same thing with a 1 cylinder ICE powered generator! Am I wrong?,...I mean, does the ICE power plant needs to be a "V6"?

I think it's a good look.

Can anyone elaborate on the manual adjustment for the thigh support? Do you grab the support and move it forward or back?
Click and pull. For those of us that use it we keep it extended all of the time. One less thing to break. While it is clearly a cost cutting move I don’t mind it at all.

I’m staying out of the discussion on the design language of the exterior and other cost cutting conversations. At some point we all need to vote with our wallet to make any significant changes happen at BMW. I’m already doing that and it’s not moving the needle in the direction I was hoping for.

It’s very likely a dealer demo, deal with it, no need to get worked up

It is this dealers MO; all their cars. When I buy my sales guy knows not to put the flag, the badge, or the front plates.

To my opinion that's because the "old school bimmer fans" are only representing single digit percent of their customer base these days and fading further. A few decades back, it was easily +25% since RWD and 6I was a deliberate choice you made for driving fun and there was always the edge of "fear" driving a BMW properly. It was seldomly an ignorant choice made by an average joe, not really interested in spirited driving. These days it is.

I must be the only person alive who thinks the front end is bad and rear is fine.

I share this deviant sentiment.

Somehow, the total concept appeals to me much more than I initially thought it would. I would like to own one although it doesn't really look well proportioned.

Even when accepting that electric vehicles are going to be the wave of the future, I’m not completely sold on the idea.
I feel we still lack the infrastructure to make them feasible for long trips and the technology for batteries (at least IMHO) is still not where it needs to be (range, charging time, etc).
That being said, it does not look bad at all!
The issue I have is after 10-15-20 years the battery life degrades quickly. A 15 year old engine loses some of its power but none of its range, if it does you just do a tune up with new spark plugs/coils/filters/etc. and its pretty much good. 15 year old battery could lose power and 1/4 to 1/3 of its range then need replacing for $20k or more basing prices off tesla batteries since they don't dig in and replace individual faulty batteries.

I have only kept one vehicle longer than 10 years, an 89 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo, precursor to the Lancer Evo. I’m fine with losing range after 10 years. But, in 10 years we should have solid state with longer range. Who knows how degradation will improve.

I will see what my i5 is like after 10 years. But I will be 77 by then, so I might not care.

Will be the same age as you after 10 years but doubt I will keep it that long. Fun to drive though.

- looks great overall. Front is very nice. Not crazy about the rear end.

- Interior is amazing. Super comfortable and aesthetics are special with the light bar.

- I hate the fact the thigh support is manual. Massive no no.

- Car drove fabulous; albeit very short test drive. You don’t feel the heft and the power and relative agility is top notch.

- Excited to see what they do with the M5.
Heyy! Is this a pre production or a production vehicle? Coz this has the interaction bar with ambient lighting and I saw that production vehicles don’t come with it! I have mine coming in next week and I found out that mine doesn’t have the interaction bar with ambient lighting but just the ambient lighting.

This is an i5 which comes with the Interaction Bar as standard. The non-electric models are impacted by the parts shortage thus may only receive the ambient lighting right now.

—Light feeling doors
—Cheaper Bowers and Wilkins Sound System. (no option for Diamond). Basically comparable to Bose
—The overall design of the vehicle is nice, but I think it might look dated quickly
—As pointed out, thigh support is manual
I’m definitely getting old as absolutely nothing about this new 5er appeals to me.

All the new gen cars have significant cost cutting and its not only BMW issue.

My understanding is that the thigh support is powered if you opt for the Luxury Seating package. Otherwise, you get the manual thigh support.
