I live in Dallas Texas and my dealership got their first i5 in. Got to try it out. In person verdict:

- looks great overall. Front is very nice. Not crazy about the rear end.

- Interior is amazing. Super comfortable and aesthetics are special with the light bar.

- I hate the fact the thigh support is manual. Massive no no.

- Car drove fabulous; albeit very short test drive. You don’t feel the heft and the power and relative agility is top notch.

- Excited to see what they do with the M5.

Thanks for posting!

Even when accepting that electric vehicles are going to be the wave of the future, I’m not completely sold on the idea.
I feel we still lack the infrastructure to make them feasible for long trips and the technology for batteries (at least IMHO) is still not where it needs to be (range, charging time, etc).
That being said, it does not look bad at all!

Thanks for sharing. Dare I say… Is it me or does the rear kind of look like a Camry?

In the flesh

I saw an I5 in the flesh at the dealer recently and I was shocked by how good it looked in person. Great looking car and cracking interior.

Our infrastructure is definitely not there yet. I believe that PHEVs are the best answer for now, and hoping to see more options from BMW and other brands. Recently saw that Ram plans to make a PHEV truck (Ramcharger), and that the gas engine only serves as a generator. It’s estimated range of 690 miles is impressive.

There's so much to like about the new 5 series, but then there are so many little things than cheapen the experience.

Some things that I noticed when I test drove it:
—No door sill guards (??)
—Cheap/plain black plastic window controls
—Light feeling doors
—Cheaper Bowers and Wilkins Sound System. (no option for Diamond). Basically comparable to Bose
—The overall design of the vehicle is nice, but I think it might look dated quickly
—As pointed out, thigh support is manual

I cannot believe the audacity of that dealer to slap the Texas flag on the back of the car. I can't stand any dealer that puts any sort of advertising/branding on the car without permission, let alone a generic state flag.

Was in Germany in September. They have charging stations at the fuel station rest stops along the autobahn so their infrastructure is more developed than the US.

Yup. Sewell BMW of Plano. So much better once the Sewell family bought out Classic BMW.

If they didn't ask, I'd have the dealership remove something like that. And make sure they removed any remaining adhesive etc.

Offering a historical perspective on the Texas flag in the back of the vehicle. I lived in Dallas in the past and see no concerns about the flag which serves as a nostalgic reminder that Texas was a republic for "nine years, eleven months, and seventeen days" before becoming a US state. The history of Texas is quite interesting. The 1845 annexation agreement does permit Texas to divide into as many as five states without Federal approval but the idea was never tested in courts.

Oh ... i5 does look great with cost cutting evidence acknowledged.

Phytonic blue looks good on this car. Reminds me of Mystic Blue on my old E46 330i.

About manual thigh support: based on the picture, this one has the "Black M/Alcantara" seats which according to the configurator: "Upholstery selection replaces Multi-contour seats with Sport seats"

With other seat options, you can adjust thigh support from the iDrive menu.

Flat bottom wheels, they made the sport car world go round.

I think it's a good look.

Can anyone elaborate on the manual adjustment for the thigh support? Do you grab the support and move it forward or back?

[QUOTE="classic_erik;30651235"]I look forward to the day they make an EV that doesn’t look like an EV.

I think the new 5 series all look the same, no matter what. I bought it because it doesn’t look like an EV, but I specifically wanted an EV.
