the only issue I have and lets call it basic ambient lighting I wouldn't say cheap is that if they could have added it to the cup holder and you can see the light strip in there it's just not on. that would have made more complete.

Also the last firmware update I got made it much brighter I've seen the light bar much better a I agree but not deal breaker

Have just ordered my 530e in Greece and still 4UR not available. You think I should keep looking it up with the dealer until production date?

That's interesting. I was convinced there is something wrong with the light strip in the cup holder cause it's never on.
Actually I'll drive the car to the dealership next week because of a rattling noise in the trunk lid since day one. I'll be naive and I intend to complain about the light being always off in the cup holder.

Just brought to my attention that 4UR can easily be retrofitted. parts are available even on ebay. Just wondering whether coding would be required

Also just got confirmation from my dealer that ambient lighting restriction on 520, 530 has been extended until after October 2024 production. just wondering what the cost would be to retrofit with original parts in BMW dealers!!

Pretty much. I actually lucked into a knowledgeable sales advisor. Upon delivery, he set up everything with us. Spent over an hour explaining every function in iDrive. Went with me on an extended test drive before my vehicle arrived, so he could explain all about the driving modes, regen, etc. Anyone in Seattle, ask for Zak 2 (they have several with the same name).

Yeah good luck that's by designer they're not going to fix that there's nothing to fix and yeah the light bar is there but they didn't turn it on in our car cuz it's part of the ambient active light bar who knows maybe the wiring is there somebody may know how to do it I wonder if it can be coded

Now I know this is a 530i discussion, and I have the 2024 540ix, but do we all have the same ambient lighting color choices? I think they are extremely limited and find that frustrating. What, are there 12 colors or so. I came from a 2021 Audi A6 that had about 35 color shades (and you could have two different colors at once on the different parts of the interior). I wish BMW would program many more color/shade choices.

How many of those colors did you actually use? I switch up between maybe 4-5 colors and never use the rest.

Well I used maybe 15 of them. But being able to combine two colors at once was really the benefit. Audi ambient is pinstripes though, so much more detailed around doors and console and dash and such and fully in backseat area and doors, unlike my 54O. My issue is, I don’t like half the BMW colors. Coral, really? I want 10 shades each of red, blue, green and white really. Anyhow, I would think BMW could just add colors with a software change. I’ll survive… clearly, I skipped getting a 2024 Audi S6 and got this 540.

If coral is the orange, that’s my favorite. I also use gold, one of the paler blues and lilac.

Since we're chiming in on colors... I usually switch between Lavender, Indigo, Papaya and Rose. I change it maybe once per week.

Funny thing is, when I was test driving the car, I couldn't get enough of the Expressive iconic sounds and figured I'd be in that mode most of the time because of the lighting and the sounds. However, now that I'm actually driving regularly, I can only stand the "drone" of the expressive sounds for about 1 minute. I love it when accelerating or decelerating, but when cruising along it's just too droning. Maybe I should just turn off the sounds and use the colors. :-) I do like the sounds in the other drive modes (Personal, Sport and Digital Art, etc.).

I hope they open up the software someday so you can mix and match your own sounds with modes and colors and instrument cluster designs.

Talked to my salesman yesterday (again) about this light bar for my ordered 530e, said it is go/no-go decision at this point, if S04UR not available I rather cancel the order. He called back today saying BMW warned dealers beginning 2024 that S04UR is in limited supply till Jul'24 and from Jul'24 it should become a standard option for all engines (EV, PHEV, ICE). Given the comment above, not sure to which extent I can trust that information though, timelines seem to slip by another quarter...

Oct'24 production means car handover in November or so. If postponing production till S04UR available is an option with the total price protected, it sounds like a win-win, although the car will сome as 2024 model year which by then is almost over...

Understand that it can easily be retrofitted later, without need for coding, so thought there was no reason to delay my order for an uncertain period.

I've been told by my dealer there is no chance to retrofit later, so where this information comes from?

I'm very skeptical about this. If I were you I'd get that in writing if getting the 4UR light bar is going to be important to you. I think you may have been given inaccurate information.

Understand you refer to the retrofitting part. Both the dealer and seller on ebay informed that this part is plug n play. It is 500eur on ebay

I'd go with that ebay ad to the service manager of the dealership and ask him or her if this is something that they could install for you if you brought them the part. It would be terrible to spend that money only to find that it would cause any problems with the car's electronics, etc. or otherwise void the car's warranty.
