Have a look at this interesting video of a 2024 Model 3 Performance (Highland) in a beginners hands at a Track Day.

As I noted earlier, I’m only interested and have only been giving info and my opinions on the 2024 Model 3 Performance refresh (Highland). I’m not interested in the base model 3, other Tesla models, or previous Model 3 Performance versions. It is this new version that has improved in performance as well as overall as a DD car and is a competitive performance car at $55k. You don’t have to like the car or buy it, but one should recognize this development if you are truly interested in cars and not just religiously devoted to only one brand like is all too common on BMW or Porsche sites.

Carwow Ionic 5 N beats Tesla Model 3 Performance (new model)

Kind of a fun video to watch. The Ionic5 N won Car & Driver best EV of the year. Beat out the BMW i5. The only vehicle that did not finish was the Tesla Cybertruck which immediately bricked itself.

That’s starting to feel like the cybertruck signature move. But in the words of Forrest Gump, that’s all I have to say about that.

Good news for BMW. I assume though that they are including hybrid vehicle numbers in their comparison but regardless, competition is good.

I said that I would never own a Tesla and after seeing what BMW was doing with electric and hybrid I decided to test drive a Tesla. After testing the FSD software on the Tesla I ordered a Cybertruck (which doesn’t have the FSD just yet) and will be taking delivery in the next couple weeks or so.

Unless you’ve tested the Tesla FSD you can not comprehend how far ahead they are when compared to everyone other manufacturer. The Tesla will replace my Ford F350 pickup and my X5M. I still have an M5 and an M8 Vert. My wife is even considering replacing her M550 with a Model S.

Regardless of anyone’s opinions of Tesla this is good news for BMW, at least for one month.

The comparison was BEV only.

I have driven 38000 miles in my IX, most journeys in DAP mode(bumper to bumper traffic crawls to work and long motorway journeys for leisure) . Not one phantom braking.
My friends model S decided to slow down from 70mph to 30mph suddenly in self drive mode and it scared the wits out of us at the precise time he was showing me the capability of the car.
The adaptive regen of the bmw system where it coasts but slows in anticipation if a car or cyclist is ahead or at a signal or roundabout is just so comfortable and clever one pedal driving done for people who want best of both worlds.

Yes and yes! Phantom breaking is a fatal flaw in Tesla SW. Happened to me several times and never used the autopilot again. Adaptive regen in the iX is a game changer, as the Tesla approach is tiring always using the pedal. I did 25k miles across our Teslas and will never buy one again. On the other hand we love our iX.

I wouldn’t sell Tesla stock just based on the auto industry catching up to their cars. Maybe if there’s some other reason, sure. But not for that reason.
No matter how many times people repeat this, it's not going to be true. Tesla is a car company, a pretty mediocre one that has been propped up with government tax credits and "investment" money.

And being a fact that more than 80% of Tesla's income comes from car sales, and that it's car's sales numbers are dropping as well as it's car prices... you just have to do your math about weather or not to sell Tesla shares.

I wonder why Tesla shares are so high, given their poor history of earnings per share but then I remember that there's so many naive people infatuated with Musk, the stock market artificially raised the price.
Because their stock price was being pumped by "private investors" which was really governments. They did this to make EV appear more popular than they were -

They spammed social media with favorable press. Literally overnight, outlets that didn't know blinker fluid from muffler bearings were reviewing "cars" starting with "Tesla"

Drag racing videos where all over the internet of "Teslas caught racing other cars"

Perfectly timed Videos were showing how FSD were "saving lives" We had article after article about how Tesla was 10 years ahead of everyone in development, and "tech" (another word for "screen")

Tax credits (and more tax credits) to make it appear that the demand for EVs was organic and accelerating. It was always propaganda.

That’s like saying Apple is a phone and tablet company. They’ll be whatever Elon needs them to be. Hell, they’re also a charger company.

I actually have the very best of both worlds…

I drive 25k+ per year and I’ve owned 5 EV’s in 10+ years and I’m purchasing my 6th this Friday

The $400-$500 in fuel ⛽️savings per month helps supplement the ownership of my M2

I think this is the norm everywhere. You have to understand that most Tesla owners basically owned Hondas or some other shitty car beforehand. Having a tablet in their car is what attracted them to buy a Tesla….and hey, it worked. In reality, they have no clue what a “nice” car is.

OMG, How true it is. My Son-in-law had a Honda Fit as his first new car. He then traded in for a Honda CRV when he said it was too rough on his back. Then when they moved out of the city into the suburbs. He then bought a Tesla model Y, and passed the CRV to his wife. And he is in Looooove with the whole tablet concept. He now likes to say that his Tesla is the safest car in the world, and all SUV's are inherently unsafe and prone to easily flip over. Lol. Yet he still has his wife (My Daughter) driving that CRV with their 3YO daughter in the back. I asked, if SUV's are so unsafe, why did he buy one? He sang it's praises for years. And why has he not bought his wife a safer car?. I told him he can buy any car he wants. He doesn't have to justify it to me on the one hand, and be a hypocrite on the other. To make matters worse, he said they are planning on getting my daughter a new safer car. A Volvo XC 90 (Another SUV).

And unless you live in SoCal, there is no way I'd trust FSD.
It does stop and go only in certain places, only under certain conditions, only with cellular connectivity, and only for a certain period of time. I’ve used it. When it works, it is no better than Autopilot and it doesn’t work nearly as often as autopilot. It also arbitrarily disengages. And after 8 years, they won’t support it anymore because reasons.

From the BMW website, discussing DAPP:

Quote:
Included in this package is the Highway Assistant feature which is provided for the first 8 years after vehicle sale. The feature will disable after that time. HA can be used only on controlled access highways. Not available in Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico or Hawaii. Weather, traffic, road conditions, availability of high definition map data and other factors may affect performance

Highway Assistant is not the stop and go feature, it is the full hands off for long periods at up to 85 mph or 135 kmh where there may or not be other cars in the road.

The stop and go does work everywhere in highways, avenues and streets with clearly painted lines. It just follows the car ahead of you, it accelerates, stops and steers in quite a natural way.

I have driven an X5 with DAPP and it was subject to the same constraints. I mean you can separate out the features if you want but it appears to me from the marketing they have the same restrictions.

And in any event, autopilot which contains all those features isn’t similarly restricted. And is free.

(And just to clarify. I am talking about active cruise control with stop and go combined with hands free lane centering. Which Tesla calls autopilot and bmw appears to call highway assist. I don’t doubt that BMW’s active cruise control alone, which requires you to have your hands on the wheel and steering, is less restricted. But that’s not what we are talking about.)

I have both. I can drive local roads without my hands on the wheel. I can drive 85 miles per hour on a two lane highway without my hands on the wheel and drive on the freeway without my hands on the wheel.
Where one takes over, I have no idea.
