But (Chief engineer Kazutoshi) Mizuno suggested the GT-R could get anywhere from 7:44 on up...

A lot more reasonable that sub 7:30 times that were first thrown around.....

That thing weights 3800 lbs. I say more like high 7:5x sec.

7:44 is too close to the c6 Z06 that has more power and weights 600 lbs less

N'ring rewards HP over light weight...I believe the GT-R is making at least as much HP as the Z06 in N'Ring testing tune.

BTW, Edmunds separately reported hand-timed "spy" times of 7:38, and I see Motor Trend is now saying 7:35 is an Official Nissan time that they are still trying to improve....

And who knows, perhaps the GT-R comes with DOT-race rubber standard

In that case maybe you could explain why the M5 is 30 sec slower than the Z06. They both have 500 hp.

Come on, man...

Quite simply, neither the M5 nor M6 are very impressive on the track...neither at the Nordshleife or VIR. Look at the lightweight Lotus Exige times at N'ring, 8:42! The heavy BMW X5, on the other hand, a 7:50! The same reported time as a GSXR1000?!? Ha, ha at my local track GIR I could put down 1:08's on my 600 and a factory pro 1:06's, an X5 would be very lucky to run 1:20.

But I do see your argument, except for the fact that at least 2 independent sources are reporting virtually the same time with 2 separate timers... which is why I also put the tires question in there. Clearly there is more to these times than weight/HP.

You realize this was no ordinary X5. 7:50 is supercar fast.

7:50 - BMW X5 E53 LM, BMW Lemans V-12 engine 750 bhp, Hans-Joachim Stuck (EVO magazine 08/2005)

Yes I do, I was trying to show 2 extreme examples of a heavy car running a fast time and a lightweight time running a "slow" time.

In the meantime, 2 independent corroborators of sub 7:40 laps for the GT-R still stands uncontested.
