Choice is always good and I appreciate BMW keeping the design consistent; I would not buy a gas vehicle anymore, nor an EV that screams "look at me, I'm an EV" and presents like a dorkmobile (hello, MB EQ). To me, the electric 5 series is it, at least the current version.

The NK design language to my taste does indeed appear to veer into the "look at me, I'm and EV" land but of course it will have to be seen uncammo'd and in person for any objective evaluation. Good thing is, my i5 lease ends in 2027 so by then it should be much clearer what I will replace it with.

Except E60 was a car that wanted to be a distinct car.

G60 wanted to be a car but the designers trying to compromise for EVs, wanted it to be very very inspired by a taller battery powered boat.

I'm going to humbly offer my dissenting opinion here. Didn't like the design of the E60 when it came out, still don't. (Also hated the E65, for what it's worth.) But I think the G60 is absolutely stunning as it appears today. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought one. I also quite like the G70, but it's not the type of car I want to daily.

The BMWs I grew up with and still love to this day were the E38, E39, E46 generation. Didn't like the E90 when it came out, but it grew on me and I owned an E93 for a couple years and still think it's one of the best looking BMWs.

I'm carefully optimistic about the NK but I will have to see it in real life to decide. I don't believe the illustrations that are floating around will be the final look, though I could be wrong.

With due respect, we all experience confirmation bias, perhaps a small factor in your acceptance and liking to the G60. It’s a great car.

To me it looks monstrous for a 5 series sedan it always was, rides much taller, has a bulbous design trying to hide the taller stance. I drove a brand new one as a loaner and impressed by the driving dynamics but to me all that sedan character is lost. Maybe the LCI is aimed at changing that. A mid generation LCi with a radical design update right after 3-4 years of G60 launch is going to make current G60 look like a standout for good or for bad.

There are plenty of cars BMW offers, I am not sure why they ended up making the car so much taller as it looks (also has no real distinction when spotted in my rear view mirror as all other 5er did. Both LCI G20 look much better). It’s more puzzling as this is all EV and ICE compromise driven design, only to now radically change well before a 7-8 years of generation duration.

The debate has been endless right on this forum and the opinion is polarized.

Now we wait for the LCI to see if we get any of the 5er sedan character back, ride height and size unlikely to change.

A Big NOPE for me. This entire "New Klasse" is Fugly. The current G90 looks FANTASTIC!
Once they offer Soft Close Doors and more Interior Colors, my Deposit drops.

Sure, but isn’t this Neue Klasse look just another “same sausage cut to different lengths” program again?

I do appreciate the smother lines - reminds me a bit of the old -02 series. But what is missing with the NK sedans are the double ovary grilles. The SUVs get them, but not sedans (or coupes if they will exist). It is too plain, and very non-BMW. I know people will say the grille design was inspired by the 507 and Z8 sports cars, but not inspiring to me. The front of the NK sedan looks a bit like an old Mistsubishi. BMW design has really lost its way here.

Porsche has no choice - their entire brand is about sports cars and filling that very small niche to a relatively small group of buyers, Porsche loses that, they lose their entire company.

BMW caters to a bigger and broader audience where they can take risks - sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. And not sure why you say BMW's electric cars aren't it. The i4, i5 and even i7 have been generally praised for what they are in BMW's line up today and what they are in the EV market. Take a look at Mercedes and their failure with their EQ cars - it's pretty much a dummies guide of what not to do. BMW is in a very favourable position with their EV strategy while actually delivering a good product that doesn't actually suck.

Early days so the engine efficiency isn’t all the way there. However, I get 28+ mpg on mostly city driving. Highway driving can easily get into the mid-high 30s. This is just in the “Personal” mode. In sport mode I get low 20s. I have not bothered with efficient mode because I can get into the low 30s sometimes on my commutes this month. Coming from a Audi A4 Allroad, this is all gravy. I essentially get the gas mileage I’d get in normal commutes in the A4 while driving like a gorilla in sport mode with a 6cyl instead of 4 banger to boot!

Wonder what’s hiding between the grill/headlights where those yellow lines are cutting off the ends. Hope they incorporate some kind of grill like the X concept and don’t go the route of the sedan neue klasse

I know they’re working years ahead of schedule and probably want 50% of their line up to look like Neue Klasse by the end of 2027 but it is very weird for one to be spied already

So BMW is already parading the LCI G60 not even 2 years after the intro of the current G60 5er? LMAO.

Surely, less than optimal sales numbers and sharp criticisms of what could possible be the worst redesign/generation of the last 20 years have to do something with it.

BMW is a lost cause. I hope their “Neu Klasse” design language works for them over the long haul.

A quick historic reference, recall that the G30 LCI didn’t come until the 2021 model year, 4 years after the pre-LCI 8th generation G30 5er debuted back in 2017. That alone should hint you on the design failure the current G60 is.

Interestingly this is about the MPG I am getting in my 992 T 7 speed manual. No batteries involved. I get the 5 series is much heavier but it does show you the advancements in petrol engine efficiency in modern sports cars. The race to kill ICE is not over yet I suspect …

I always been a 7 series person. Never really like 5 but this G60 i5M60 is really climbing the ladder to number 1 favorite of all my BMW I owned. The new one grill may grow on me but looks a lot like a Lincoln car. But once I see it in person. Again I may not get one this G60 hopefully be my car next 10yrs. Then plan on just hang around house. And dies jk. Wife can’t poison me she don’t cook. 😂
