Teslas are everywhere here. Literally. The iX looks rugged and unique. Odd front end notwithstanding.

No doubt the model 3 refresh is significant enough to warrant calling it a "new" model 3

I, for one, would never use FSD. I own a BMW because I love to drive. I just get in my car and drive nowhere in particular. FSD is for people who don’t like to drive and a car is just a way to get from point A to point B. I’m sure there are plenty to people like that in the world. To me, it is the antithesis of BMW. DAPP enhances freeway driving by allowing you to move your legs and stretch. I use the stop & go for rush hour, occasionally. It does a great job at that. I don’t need to put in a destination and have my car chauffeur me there. If I wanted to be driven, I would hire a chauffeur and get a 7 series with reclining rear seats.

On the range issue our iX shows 308 miles at full charge and that is an accurate number regardless of speed - highway or city use. On our 3 and Y it said 310 miles at full charge but in reality got 240-260 miles and less on the interstate. Granted the battery is 40 kWh larger, but it’s a fact that the range is much better on the iX.

Yep. Compare the G8x LCI - new headlights, a small power bump on the competition, a minor interior design change, and a SW tweak.

Now look at the model 3 performance: new adaptive suspension, massive power increase, new motors including much improved top end power, new forged wheels, new brakes, new tires, new front end, new back end, new seats, new options, new interior, new color, new trim.

Kinda ignorant to call it simply a “refresh.” It’s a new generation like the f80 to g80.

new vs old model 3

Interesting video,..

If the new model 3 is so good vs the old, then why it's not any faster?

May be because it's actually just a refresh?

Ignorants are those who do not know, but dumb are the ones that don't want to know, read or find out.

I guess I should’ve added that Tesla is an outrageously overvalued car company. In no rational market environment should it be worth more than car makers combined.

Even if I loved Tesla cars there's no way I would spend $0.10 that would go in Elon Musk's pocket.

He's a maggot.

UK driver here. 2 years ago all new EV you could see was Tesla. Now new Tesla ones are harder to spot. Customers wanting EV seem to be aligning with their familiar brands as most are offering EV selections.

Talking about the performance model. Who are the poor folk buying the base model 3? Who cares?

Also funny Mat starts with “this is the new model 3”… you’re arguing semantics and look a bit trite here.

Mat’s GT3RS is amazing, and it’s obnoxious he got an allocation. Unlike Joe Achilles, he’s not stuck in the orbit of BMW ///M.

I just don't agree with people who buy an EV thinking they are "Saving the planet". That won't happen until ALL chargers are refueled by replenishable energy. As long as there are charging stations powered by an electric grid that is fed by fossil fueled generator plants that will not be the case. I even saw one in Australia that had a single charging station connected to a Diesel Generator!!!!.

And not to mention the environmental impact of the strip mining (By Diesel powered heavy equipment) of the tons of raw materials, and hazardous chemicals involved in the refining of the Cobalt, Lithium, and other rare metals needed to produce a single EV battery.

It takes 7 years for a Tesla Model Y (The one with the smallest battery) to actually become carbon neutral. And then at 10 years the battery has to be replaced and the cycle starts all over. It cannot be economically recycled. There was a report that I read a couple of years ago that showed the real carbon footprint of the construction of a single Tesla EV was larger than a full sized V-8 SUV over 10 years.
It astonishes me how many seemingly intelligent people parrot reddit and X (Twitter) propaganda.

You can thank me later:
“Jarod C. Kelly, principal energy system analyst at the DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory, co-authored a 2023 study that analyzed cradle-to-grave greenhouse gas emissions and economic costs of electric and conventional cars. Kelly said the study found that under current conditions it would take an electric car 19,500 miles, or less than two years of typical driving in the U.S., to pay back the increased emissions of the manufacturing process and break even with a comparable gasoline car.”

https://www.factcheck.org/2024/02/el...eir-lifetimes/

By the way, there is literally zero evidence batteries have to be replaced “every ten years”. According to Kelley Blue Book, only 1.5% of EVs and PHEVs sold since 2011 have had battery replacements:
https://www.kbb.com/car-news/study-ev-plug-in-hybrid-battery-replacements-rare/

Obviously, you’d have to stratify that population to tease out the >= 10 year old data, but even that would be misleading, as battery technology has greatly advanced in the last 5 years.
