and i'm not saying that less fortunate people are slobs, but it comes down to education. if you're not willing to give yourself the free education that's offered to you as an american and decide you're going to squeeze out babies for government cheese or sell crack, then you're a slob. people that are WILLING to educate themselves and work to make an honest living everyday aren't dependent on a government handouts. but more and more (and i see it directly proportionate to education), people are depending on free money, handouts, and government housing because it's easy and convenient. the economy can only be so much of it. then it comes down to humility...doing something that someone might not want to do. there's always a way, but it's so easy to say fuck it these days.

If some of you fools think the "welfare slobs" are the ones causing high taxes then you are extremely ill informed.
It's about 8% of the federal budget. You want to really reduce our taxes? Get rid of Social Security. Educate yourself and go learn about the Federal budget. It's public record. |

I dont have any money. I dont pay taxes. I dont have an income.
My question is, I have some $$ stuffed away in the stock market in an e-trade account. Its roughly tripled since I put it in almost a year ago. I know if I take it out I'll have to pay taxes on the profit. If I sell the stocks but reinvest them without ever taking them out of my account, would I have to pay taxes or would I be in the clear since I never actually "had" the money per say. |

The wife is in advertising, specficially web analytics and metrics. Oddly enough her job description is pretty close to mine, but with websites and banner ads instead of steel tube and wire. |

E-Trade will generate a tax form for you at the end of the year assuming you made over the minimum (At least I think there is a minimum cap) and you will be responsible for paying the appropriate capital gains taxes on the profits. Even if you reinvest everything. Don't worry man... Uncle Sam ensures that they'll get a piece of the pie regardless. About the only way you can skip out on paying taxes on an investment account is through a 401k where the contributions are put in "pre-tax" and as long as you don't withdrawl them until retirement age will be tax free. *edit* Or you can put "after-tax" money into a Roth IRA and then not pay any money on any of the earnings.... Problem is we got our SS statements just days before. Kinda liked the included letter that basically said to "not count on collecting 100% of what you are owed from SS", but in more words. To count on a more realistic 60% or so of what I would have been. Fuck that.

Why military excepted? I think they should have to pay taxes or not get to vote as well. Hell, it is just a job that they are paid for. Granted it is on the more dangerous side, but that should not exempt from taxes IMO.
