The i5 m60 is still a heavy beast. I’m always too all over the place on Test drives to really get a good idea on these things. I fear it may not be much better?
Two iX 50 and two iX M60 with air suspension and rear steering, and now my 2025 has 22" wheels and no air suspension!

My 2024 i5 M60 had 20" wheels, rear air suspension and rear steering.

The i5 M60 had minimal body roll and bounciness. In fact, I found my i5 M60 to be one of the best driving and handling BMWs I have had been lucky enough to enjoy!

I do miss the iX air suspension on crappy Los Angeles city streets, but the non air suspension iX feels amazing on the highway, in twisty canyons and mountains and the non air feels much better over speed bumps.

If I had to say what drives better in general....I think the i5 M60! The i5, like most 5 Series, is the perfect combo of comfort, sport, smooth and controlled.

Amazing feedback. Thank you for this.
In my brief test drive I was really impressed by the turn in and breaking. It felt very different than the IX does but being so limited I get concerned that with larger sample it would not be as different

sorry last question - would you describe your prior IX air suspensions has wallowing/ bouncy? I know you say the I5 is not these things but do you think the IX was?

Our previous iX with air suspension was not "wallowy" like say a full size Range Rover, Cadillac or Rolls-Royce Phantom (all which I think are supremely comfortable), but at times the iX can wallow and dip and dive; especially on the freeway).

I prefer the iX without air on the freeway, but the iX with air suspension is great on poorly built or maintained surface streets.

iX with or without air suspension is "bouncier" than the i5, I think just because it is an SUV...I mean SAV, lol! But, the iX is not what I would consider a bouncy ride at all.

The i5 feels like a more, proper BMW sedan...comfort, luxury, sport and very balanced.

That being said, I think the iX is one of the best EVs around, in any category!

If you want more room and an SUV...I think the best choice of any make is the iX.

If you want a proper, mid level sports sedan that looks and feels like a BMW, then the new 5 Series is your best choice!

Yea I agree I would not say the IX is anywhere close to as wallowly as a RR. But, at least for the 50, it really does not inspire me to drive fast at all. I think a combination of the squishy brake regen, the weight and softer suspension make for a less confident drive at high speeds.

Edit - it’s very good for an suv. I guess I’m just looking for more.

It will be sold as a new car and qualify for rebates but it will come with essentially 1 yr less warranty than a brand new car.

Question for everyone here - the earlier model 2024s i5 m60 - should I be concerned about early model issues?

Thanks

Like Scrapula - I ordered sight unseen and took delivery in November ‘23 - my M60 has been solid, no major issues and the ride quality/instant and prodigious power delivery still put a smile on my face.

If you have air suspension and the 20 or 21" wheels...I do not think the iX feels great at higher speeds (well, great if going straight ).

The 22" wheels without air suspension makes the iX feel pretty great in canyons and at higher speeds.

If you really want something that looks and for sure FEELS like a BMW...I would get a 5 Series!

This is what I’m missing!
I do have 20in and air suspension.

Don’t get me wrong, I really prioritize comfort and that’s why I got the IX. But a car can still be very comfortable and tighter at the same time. Also, I think a cars seats matter more than anything else when it comes to my back pain. You will notice a rougher ride but that’s not what causes my back to kill me 30 mins into a drive. It’s the seats!! And the seats are absolutely one of the worst things about the IX.

100% the thing BMW got wrong with the iX. I find them comfy, but you move around in them a lot (especially with real leather). The worst part to me is the no behind the leg extender. Our son's first car was a 228i and it had better seats, LOL! I do love the way the iX seats look though and the leather is soft and smooth like the 7 Series!

Definitely agree on the material being fantastic.
The no leg extender stinks. I also find the seat bottom too firm. This is the main cause of my discomfort. Lastly, the lack of an adjustable headrest really bothers me, it is way too far back if the backrest is reclined at all.

One last question - the car has the I5 electric decals on it. He said it was a launch car and it sits in the showroom now with decals on. It didn’t have the decals when it was being driven. Any concern with the decals leaving behind newer looking paint than the rest of the car? He said absolutely not but it just worries me that paint wasn’t exposed to the elements like the rest of it.
Wow good for you! im surprised you aren't taking a total bath on this lol. Funny enough im about to pull the trigger on an i5 as well for an additional car. Did you have to go out of state again for this one too?

Good deal. I'm happy you were able to come to an agreement. I don't think tthe amount of rime.it has had the decals is enough to make a difference in the paint. Once you see it without them if it shows they can always ask them to correct the paint with a polish.

Yeah I cant see that being an issue after only a year. And if its is its on them to fix.

Yea. Out of state once again. North west PA and MASS is where my IX was priced the best. I mean I have some places say 60k. It’s wild out there.

Been kinda waiting for the right opportunity to tell my wife. She’s going to know I am certifiably unwell lol. It’s a delicate one for me, but I’ll figure it out over the next week I think.

I’m going to the same dealer I got my iX from they are giving me a good deal. I’m far too lazy to deal with out of state lol. Good luck though let us know how it works out!

Yea I wish I could do that but the trade in on the IX is preventing me. There is a local NY dealer but they won’t even given a price on my IX . Desperate times call for traveling out of state haha.

Yeah in your situation I get it. As I’m sure you’ve found out most dealers are gonna absolutely try to fleece you on the iX

As long as you can find a way to explain it that makes sense to her, she will still think you are nuts, but at least not that you are being irresponsible.

I had to explain to my wife why buying my car now, instead of when we return to the US made sense. Once I showed her that by me buying a New car now, means it will be paid off by the time we leave in a couple of years, AND we only have to pay taxes on a used car when it gets to WA, AND, that means when we get back She will be able to get a new car as well, AND we will only have one car payment, she agreed. Otherwise I explained, we would both be needing new cars when we return from Spain, (Hers being a 2013 Range Rover, and Mine being an EU Spec Mercedes) and that would be much more of a financial burden. Only then did she agree my reasoning made sense and it wasn't just "I want a new car Now! And I don't want to wait 2 years."

Good thinking on your part.

I will use somewhat rational reasons to plead my case but unfortunately I’ve used them multiple times in the past 2 years. Bad back, uncomfortable, move to EV. I’ve exhausted them all so it’s going to be a repeat which is going to be tough.

What about the "I'm just not happy with it and it makes me miserable and uncomfortable whenever I have to crawl into it and drive it. It puts me in a bad mood and you don't deserve to be on the receiving end of it. I know the last one was a mistake, and know I will have to deal with that mistake financially." excuse?

Hey, my Stepmother is a NY divorce attorney. I'm sure she has heard some good excuses for stuff like that.
