I5 m60 or IX 50
Sooo I’ve had my IX for about a month now and while it feels pretty luxurious (Amido leather), spacious, comfortable ride (air suspension and rear wheel steering package), it’s pretty darn quick - it’s lacking something for me. Whether it’s the fugly looks that down fit a dad of two young kids, being a bit boring to drive, having a bit too much lean on the corners, the non supportive seats with the stupid cutout & mini van like environment, or the frameless windows making the doors sound like shit and the door panels squeak when pressed - it has me thinking I should have got the i5 m60 as my EV commuter conversion.
Curious to hear from everyone especially those who decided btw the two or might even own both now. A few members have already answered as part of another thread I posted before getting the IX - sorry for the repeat. Thanks in advance! |

Always try to fit a square peg into a round hole and make my car the family car. The wife never likes my cars and I never have it stocked with essential kid stuff. the IX was chosen once again with the hopes it would become the go to family car. I just gotta give that up! Wife doesn’t like it. Especially the seats with the plastic cutouts.

We looked at an iX as the i5 M60 wasn’t released yet. I didn’t want an SUV and it was just not attractive to me inside or out. The first dealership we went to was pushing us to get one because the i5 release was still months away.

Not surprised they were trying to push you to a car they could sell you today. Glad to here you had the patience to wait it out. I definitely lack that. The stop sale on i5s definitely influenced my decision to take the IX.

That sounds typical of a car dealer. They need to move the inventory they have sitting on the lot that is "costing them money now" rather than a special order that will take months to show a profit for them.

Yes but if I completely give up on trying to make my car the family car then the range anxiety will be minimal as it will just have to handle my daily commute of ~105 miles (round trip)

I get it, but you will go crazy if you keep second guessing your purchase. You still have an awesome car and although it’s not perfect and you may have some individual issues that may need to be checked (like squeaking panels) it’s still a great car. Also your wife may warm up to it as well the plastic seat cutout for example can be easily remedied.

The iX has a lot going for it in the interior. Feel like the iX suffered from corporate fiefdom protection. It had to go this route with the exterior design because it could not step on the X5’s turf. The i5 benefits in that respect because it was made along side the 5 series ICE. I bet the iX5 will be better for that approach too.

I am very curious about your squeaking iX door panels. Two 2022 iX50, two 2023 iX M60 and now my 2025 iX50....and zero squeaking door panels or anything squeaking for that matter. 5 iX and zero squeaks, rattles, or unwanted noises.
Where the seats in the i5 and i7 are for sure much, much more comfortable than the iX...everything else in the iX interior feels as good to me as the 7 Series. |

I considered both but went with the iX because there are just so many more luxury features on the iX that you just cannot get on the i5 in the US as of now (4 zone climate, B&W diamond, soft close doors, massage seats, top quality leather, electrochromic roof). The iX interior is also massively spacious in the front and rear since it has no transmission tunnel. I don't find it boring to drive in the slightest.

I was also between the iX and the i5 M60.
The thing that sold me (or turned me off the iX) was the seats. I'm in pretty good shape (5'5, 140 lbs, athletic) with no back problems but after a 25min test drive, the iX's seats were causing discomfort. Had the same issue with the i4 which I suspect had similar seats. Test drove the i5 that same evening and no troubles whatsoever. Overall though, I think the iX is a much more space efficient package than the i5. However, as I already had a larger vehicle for larger vehicle stuff, the i5 is more than enough space for my family for daily driving. |

Lol. One does not drive a 5er because of space efficiency. One drives a 5er because one wants to "Drive" a 5er. Save space efficiency for SUV's and Minivans.
