To be fair, the 550e performance doesn't come close to the G30 M550ix. It's marginally better than the G60 540iX. I believe the i5 M60 is intended to be the successor to the G30 M550ix.

Just looked again:

0-60
M550i in 3,6 secs
550e in 4,1 secs
540i in 4,5 secs

Considering the instant torque from the electric motor, I’m pretty sure the 550e feels closer to the M550i than to the 540i. A recent review I read about the PHEV corroborated that.

I’ll take that bet and double down on that the 550e doesn’t come close to the M550ix performance. It’s 600 lbs heavier and at least 50 bhp less power. Just sayin.

I was aware of the car but I didn't want a plug-in hybrid with about 40 less HP than the 2020 M550 which I currently own but will be going off lease shortly.

You will have that and more with the 2025 550e. Same power train as X5 50E with 483 HP and 516 lb/ft TQ. Car and Driver got 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds at 110 mph. 550e will have better performance than the X5 and will probably match the 550i.

And yet still slower and heavier than the G30 M550ix. As good as it may be for what it is, the G60 550e isn’t the replacement for the M550ix and doesn’t have the performance to match it, which is what he was looking for without going to the M5.

I have but I couldn’t wait. I have no car since a car crash before Halloween. The 540i xDrive I built had everything I wanted except the turbo V-8.

It will finally arrive at the dealership tomorrow.

Had a testdrive in an 550e sedan this weekend. Information and reviews of the G60 550e are very limited (not existing) as far as i can see.
Very impressive car and engine combination. Car is pretty quick in electric only mode (fast enough to flow with traffic, even on the highway (130km/h = 80mph). Realistic electic range when I picked the car up was around 80km = 50 miles but the battery was not fully charged.

In sport (or any mode with engine available) the car is very quick, BMW says 4.3 seconds to 100kmh, I would not be surprised if its actually quicker than this. I also own an 911 (991.2) so i have some comparison .
Car didn’t have the M sport suspension with anti roll system unfortunately [special option for the hybrid cars, they come standard with adaptive suspension]. Was interested in this (expensive) option but the car drives really well without. Cant feel the high weight.

I drove the sedan but would like to purchase the Touring version which is not available to order yet. Cool thing in our country is that the “pollution” tax on these hybrids is very low which makes this car cheaper to buy than the old G30/31 540(x)i. On those is a “pollution” tax of around €20-30.000.
Dont have the time now to write a "full review", if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

There was to be an M560e - more powerful than the 550e and M-tuned to replace the M550i, but apparently it was canceled. Perhaps it will come back into the product plan with the LCI if the volume of EV sales continues to flatten or decline. There is a market for such a car.

We'll see...one can hope. As much as a hybrid or full EV doesn't work for me, I could be very temped by an M560e. I wonder if both M560e and i5 M60 had been available at launch if more current i5 M60 owners would have picked the hybrid instead.

I believe a significant number would have jumped to the M560e. Which might be the reason BMW canceled or delayed it. Big push to get folks into the EVs. Notice how the only ICE vehicle offered at intro was the 530i. Took a while to get the 540xi in the mix. The sales people were really working OT to convert V8 drivers to the M60.

I took delivery on Wednesday March 6. It’s been a super busy work week, but I’m loving my 540xi!
