G60 BMW 5er such a disappointment

https://youtu.be/AJ6bCvyFahg?si=HdNoBn_IUY2zUTYS

Checkout my nightdrive video on the G60 530i. The interior is quite mundane with little to desire. I’m really concerned with bmw and it’s cheap plastic interior on surfaces that should be leather such as the steering airbag, dash board, door cards etc. lack of ambient lighting compare to the G30, this new 5er is such a disappointment. For contrast my highly spec X3 G01 has nicely finished window switches almost feeling like aluminum, everything you feel and touch is weighted and feels like BMW quality. On this G60 everything is lightweight and plastic no tactile feel. What irks me the most is the comfort access. Again a 23 X3 LCI has 4 door comfort access, the G60 5er only has it on the front door. Some really good options were the driver assist professional and parking assistance, really good features worked great, camera quality is so crisp you can see cracks in the road through the front or rear camera. Again this is a 530i basic spec but it’s such a lazy attempt at a 5er level bmw

I think you need to keep driving your X3.

1. No more sunroof in Germany
2. No rear window opening (G61)
3. No massage seats
4. No more 17-inchers
5. Fewer buttons
6. Goodbye, shifter
7. Ventilation through the joint
8. No more door sills
9. Decorative strips end at the beginning of the doors at the front --> they are completely missing at the back
10. No ambient lighting (LED strips) at the back
11. Cup holder open at the back in the middle rest, the mechanism for opening and closing is missing.
12. The cheap version of the cargo area cover can only be pushed. (G61)
13. No more favorite buttons
14. No independent 5 Series cockpit, no dashboard but only the touch board
15. No halfway decent dashboard display on the touch board
16. The backs of the seats are now completely modeled on a hard-shell suitcase
17. Comfort seats with missing adjustments (top backrest no longer adjustable).
18. No more keyless sensors on the rear doors.
19. No more knee airbag.
20. No more Alcantara headliner.
21. No more exclusive leather package / full leather package.

Oh dear! Just when I thought I was being bias! The interesting thing is that the G30 5er had all those even a 530i could be spec as highly optioned you want it. It’s such a lazy design. I will be buying out my X3 lease and now shopping around for a used G30 540i as a second car, I’m so glad I got this G60 as a loaner cause a what a nightmare this car is

I am quite happy with my car i5 M60, I guess I am not as picky as some others here. Good news though, with the money you save by not buying the car, you could maybe get a new pair of jeans

Hide behind a screen and comment at a pair of “rip jeans” hmm never knew a $80 pair of jeans is a part of a convo regarding the contrast of a car, but you do do you buddy seems like you’re salty your car has terrible interior for $100k and you can’t return it so you’re mad at me …why are you even on this platform?

It was a joke, you obviously missed that part. I believe my car has a great interior and I have no desire to return it. Your comments are your opinion only, I have no issue with that and I get it, you don't like the car. Others don't share that opinion and your comments aren't going to convince anyone to not buy it or return it.

having bought and leased many cars over the last 40+ years, I sure have come across quite a few disappointments. however, they were mostly limited to GM(Caddy, Buick) and Ford(Lincoln)...

I have not yet encountered a "perfect" car yet, at any price, shape, size, etc... (well, except maybe my first love, my old 1988 Nissan 300ZX with T-tops... but it's a distant memory now)

I stopped judging cars based on what other people thought, or if it was a money pit... Below are a few of the things that I consider these days: (copied and pasted from my post in another forum a while back)

(1) does driving it make me happy at least 50% of the time?

(2) will this car get me laid more often?(some of my previous cars definitely helped a LOT)

(3) is it easy to parallel park in the city?(NYC, Philly, DC, etc)

(4) will grandma(RIP) and grandpa(RIP) be impressed while I drive them to the Ritz-Carlton for their 50-year college reunion?

(5) will it attract the attention of carjackers?

(6) will the interior fall apart after 2 years?

(7) does it have a factory sat nav?(still don't trust CarPlay completely even in 2024)

(8) is it roomy enough for two people to do "exercises" in the backseat?

(9) if I buy this car, will I become best friends with the dealership's service advisor and technicians?(hope not)

(10) can I drive in comfort for 8-hour same-day road trips at 75mph?(i.e. NYC-BOS, NYC-DC)

And I completely understand and like your concept of what you look for in a car. Again this car I reviewed is a service loaner basic spec and my first look at the G60. I am more so disappointed because I can already see the direction the new G45 X3 might head and we’re already really interested in replacing our current Lease with it and a 540i alongside. But again the overall driving is excellent I find the daily features quite good such as the driver assist and 360 camera, maybe I would need a fully optioned 5er to see if the interior gets better

Of course my comments won’t deter anyone from buying the car, it’s a BMW since my first bmw I’ve understood that no one goes to a bmw dealer by accident, there’s a certain appeal that BMW gives each customer and a driving experience only a Porsche can fill, but I’m still disappointed in the higher msrp and the removal of items and overall material the previous 5er had or could at least option

in late 2022, I was about to order a 2023 X3, but decided that I wanted something newer. The G45 X3 was still 2 years away... so I test drove the 2023 X1(U11) that just came out. I liked it and ordered one. It was definitely better than the previous X1(F48) that it replaced. Waited 5 months for it to arrive. After driving it for 9 months, I still like it.

I recently placed an order for the 530i. It's estimated to go into production in less than 2 weeks. (the 530i replaces an older sedan in the house)

sure hope the new X3 will be everything that I expect it to be. if so, I may consider trading in the 2023 X1 for a 2025(or 2026) X3.

I think every single bmw loaner that I've driven has felt and looked like a pos. Or close. To include a recent 95k 840.

While there are a few items that my 2022 5 Series did better than my 2024 i5 M60 (sun visor quality, better door padding by lower storage area, all 4 doors with keyless touch sensors, physical buttons)....I find my new 5er to be amazing, and the ride and overall feel of the car is very 7 Series like.

But to each their own, and the most amazing thing....you do not have to buy the 2024 5 Series

Its a service loaner 840 miles on the odo ofc it rode smooth as a baby’s ass but the truth remains this car has a drastic price increase over the outgoing 5er with far less quality and features

The luxury you want is now in the 7 series. I contemplated buying that car, but I really wasn’t in love with the exterior styling. The lack of leather on the lower doors isn’t a big deal for me. I don’t use the storage there. If I needed to impress people, ie if I were a realtor showing homes or in marketing, then I would need that and would have bought the 7 series.

7er is far out of my price range and I’m also not interested in this gen 5er I’m shopping around for a G30 540i to sit alongside my G01 X3 LCI, I’m hoping to hold on to the G01 until the G45 2025 X3 gets released later this year

It can be assumed that things won't get any better with the G45.

I wanna add that BMW built the g60 primarily for China. If you look at youtube videos of the g60 in china, you will notice they get an objectively more luxurious product. One video I saw had blue merino leather seats with stitched leather on the backside of the front seats. It also had illuminated door sills and piano black window switches similarly seen on the current 7. Additionally, it also had LED lighting on the sun roof as seen on other worldwide BMW products. The g60 is a luxurious car…but only for china smh

Such a shame, I think bmw knows the US customers will buy the car no matter what so they don’t care to appeal to us anymore

Honestly, this is all very predictable and not very surprising to hear. I think to gain an insight into the entire 5 series from a base model isn’t necessarily that useful, but then again the OP calls that out clearly, so credit to him there. The interior trim, ambient lighting etc in my M60 address many of the issues here.

More broadly, this isn’t a new issue from my perspective - I remember not long after I got my 2010 328i SW, I had to get some work done at the garage and got a base 328i loaner. My SW had great sport package, upgraded suspension etc etc, I couldn’t believe it when I got behind the wheel of the 2011 328i - it felt wooly and like I was driving a Honda Civic to be honest. Perhaps that’s because I was so attuned to the options and handling upgrades on my own car, as well as some of the nicer options I had in the cabin, but this feels like a similar thing to me.

Ymmv, as they say.

Agreed honestly! I know the X3 and 5er are not the same class but my current G01 is highly optioned so I was extremely disappointed mostly at the fact that the X3 has so many of the issues I seen in the 5er as standard but not available on a 5 or the materials just got so much cheaper. I know the M5 is gonna address the interior with the highest quality and best features but not everyone is gonna buy an M5

I have not yet encountered a "perfect" car yet, at any price, shape, size, etc... (well, except maybe my first love, my old 1988 Nissan 300ZX with T-tops... but it's a distant memory now)

My '18 M550i was the closest thing to perfection yet. It was fast, luxurious, and had great tech. Not perfect, but pretty close!!

That was definitely the G68.
It's really only for China.
