If you have a 401K, or otherwise invest a given amount every month, this is the time to switch to stocks: you want to buy them cheap. It is safer to pick an index fund (S&P 500 it is a safe bet).

If you are investing with a long term perspective this 'market correction' is a blessing.

WOW, someone stop this madness...
Monkey comes out yesterday trying to sell us how strong the economy is -- Dow falls 350 points. So much about how much people trust the monkey...

That is why my portfolio consists of Structured Products. I do not have a down year and my principal is guaranteed. I have learned my lesson in stocks, ETFs and and hedge funds...no thanks.

I am not aware of any investments that are 100% risk free, or free from having a negative return under any econommic circumstances. May be you can educate us on your "Structured Products" concept?!?

I feel nothing for the stock market as I don't have a cents in it, my wife has a lot.... her mum buy stock in 7 digits. Sometimes I wonder how these people goes to bed at night? I think stock is for rich people that know rich people and trade in 7 digits.... at the end, most of the small fish will be eaten. That how the big fish get bigger.

If I want more money, I goes into my boss office and ask more. . Dreaming

Investment is good but not gamble ....

aim for long term...

two things to look out for:
1. interest rate
2. tax policies

Dow is down 300+ pts today....but luckily my portfolio is holding up.

man the market is acting up and everyone is nervous. If you look at the DJ in the past year, you will noticed it has gone up for the past year. Yeah, there are times when it goes down but the over all trend is upward. You are in it for the long run. This is the time to buy. Buy low sell high ).

Sad thing is, this market slide is trigger by credit squeeze combine with collapse of sub-prime, decline housing market, squeeze on regular prime, hedge funds selling and covering but the the sad thing is, I was reading the paper yesterday and median home prices in L.A. and OC is still mostly half a million and above....it's purely insane..not only are the funds in stock quickly erroding away...houses are still way out of reach for most regular folks. At this point, I honestly don give a F*** if an asteroid hit earth and wipe everything out........

Gosh I miss GANEIL to tell us all how great the Economy is and how stable it is and how the stocks just keep breaking the records...

I wonder if he would EVER admit how inflated it all was and how shakey the economy is and how much effect we're feeling and will feel of thrown away > $1 trillion on the damn wars...

And he (W) will again blame the Dems because this is just the beginning and the real thing will be felt after he's out...

At 40something and already having gray hairs and 20+ years of time averaging all my investments this down turn did not touch principle like it did in 2001. So it just a paper lost and lost 20% of my net worth in 2 weeks who's complaining.

I think I can help some of you guys out a little. You will need to first change the way you normally think about "Stocks" and settle in to another way of thought. "Long term" is great when it works. I've traded many things over the years, stocks, bonds, options, futures, commodities and their combos like pork futures options, but not foreign exchange (FX), yet. I also trade almost everyday, a financial consultant, and write for a financial website on the side. Basically, the way of thought I'm talking about is something like "Flow like the water, the point of least resistance." Don't be stubborn and say I'm long term and this correction doesn't matter. It does matter and the decrease in your monthly statement is real money not a paper loss or is only a loss when I sell it mentality. Inversely, if you are a day trader or intraday trader, do not think this is the only way to go for you either. There is a time and a place for different trading and investment strategies.

I can go on and on about this for a while, but I bet you are curious what a market pro is doing. We mainly sell into rallies and buy on dips, (easier said than done) and come out ahead in any market condition, in short to long term, and of course we long and hold short positions daily.

Personnally as of today, I am sitting on cash and 20% bonds in my 401k/IRA accounts. For the descretionary account, I'm prepared to have fully loaded positions on shorts and partial position long on countertrend rallies. Another words, I am more longer term on short positions and much shorter term on long positions with a slightly smaller position size. Same biases for options and futures. I have my record archived in my weekly reports at the website. Bearishness was observed well over a month ago. I'll entertain any questions about market conditions, but don't expect too quick of a response in this forum.
