I'm in FL as well. Issue still persists. I followed up with my service advisor last week and she said BMW is aware of the issue but there is no fix yet.

I suppose these posts are pretty recent and there aren’t any updates yet on a fix… I picked up my i5 m60 about a month ago and have heard the same noises. I’m actually really happy to have found this thread…

I love the car and it’s really the only complain I’ve had. Here in TX of course I’ve had to use the A/C; it seems to me that the noises are more pronounced during the early parts of a drive and seem to lessen as the drive goes on. I was imagining something that’s either stiff or possibly incorrectly lubricated, but I could be completely wrong. I’ll do my own experiment by turning on the A/C sometime when I’m plugged in and driving after it’s been running for a while.

Also good to hear that they may be working on some kind of fix. I may not bother with checking with the dealer until someone reports some progress on that end.

Thanks for confirming that no, I’m not the only one hearing things.

Oh and for some reason Jurama81’s reply didn’t show up for me until just now. Yes, count me as another swamp-dweller with the noise.

Stuart

I am in So FL, I started hearing a dull knocking or pinging thud sound. I thought it was a digital sound coming around screen or head unit...now I think it's a drip being echoed by vents. Sometimes it is more present or noticeable than other times. Is this what everyone in this thread experienced? strange noise hard to describe, very faint and i think it would hard to record.

For now my fix is just to crank up the tunes but I need to get it checked out at the dealership.

Anyone else hearing the same thing.
Same thing here. I think it’s normal because my G05 X5 does it too only when the AC was running. Possibly just a valve, but I’ll ask. I have a regular maintenance check coming up.

For better or worse, I was able to get a recording on which you can actually hear the sound. It was loud yesterday for whatever reason:

Here!

I’m not sure if that works, I uploaded it to YouTube as a short video.

Update: I called my service advisor and he said there is a fix. He said its the drain valve and that he had ordered the parts for me. Said parts may take a couple of weeks but at least they've identified the issue.

Nice! Drain valve for the A/C? I’m sending the video and description to my service advisor. Please do let us know, once the part is replaced, if the issue resolves.

I have had my G60 for a month now and hear this a few times here and there. (it is exactly like the video!) It is a very odd sound and is quite loud when sitting at t a red light. My passengers always say "what was that?" and I shrug it off. What should I tell my service advisor if I bring it in? I can't seem to do it on command, which makes diagnosis difficult.

Permission to use my recording is freely given! “It’s this noise.” 🤓

SIB

Registered to post that I just went through this with my service advisor. As others have stated, the parts come from factory and will take 2-3 weeks to arrive. The install will take about a week since they have to take apart the entire high voltage system to get to the valve.

The Service Information Bulletin is SI B64 01 24.

You all are great - I’m hearing the noise too in my . Thanks especially Sturob!!

This was so puzzling - I assumed for a long time it was some sort of digital icon sound from the touch screen. Such a weird noise!

Calling my service center tomorrow…

Did anybody get this issue resolved? cuz i just got an i5, and I am hearing the same noise when it's idle (hence quiet), but after I turn off the AC, the ticking noise goes away....

Hopefully the poster who mentioned he was taking his car in to get it taken care of will chime in…

My salesman contacted me recently and said that the service manager at the dealer has a fix and they would get me in sometime soon… and implied (or I inferred) that the car would be with them for a while. If the fix IS related to that service bulletin, it is a pretty involved process.

That's not really update though.... did the fix work? I would hope that they don't have to perform some invasive work on my i5... i really prefer not to have something expansive done cuz the car is brand new.

Fix is not performed yet. Waiting on parts to arrive from Germany. BMW does have a fix for the drip sound though. I will update after the repairs are made.

What the sound is and why it sounds louder in some cars. As the air is cooled in the condensing unit the moisture from the air condenses into water droplets. These droplets then drip hitting a section of the drain pipe making the sound. Depending on air vent positioning and fan speed, the level of cooling and how good your ears are is how well you can hear the drip. My job involves me listening for unusual sounds in operating machinery so I can hear it even doing 55 mph down the road. Hope it is fixed 100% when the parts arrive.

Is this problem unique to the i5 cars? My ICE 540xi isn't having these issues.
