I thought the whole point of college was sobering up to realize you had bills for courses you can't even remember signing up for, and certainly didn't attend.

Not a lawyer - get the documents proving you were out of the country from X date to Y date. Get a copy of your grandmother’s death certificate. Make a copy of your vehicle registration and go see them in person if possible. Be humble and apologetic when you ask why it took two years for them to contact you in regards to this matter as you were emotionally and mentally taxed due to your family’s loss. Check your email accounts and see if you ever got emails from them. Check your credit report to see if was ever sent to collections. Covid can’t be the reason of the lapse as the burser is responsible for billing. Don’t show up in your X7 😂😶. And lastly, bring your checkbook and be ready to pay in installments. P.S. Use your X7 to make lawyer friends through food and drinks. Let us know how it’s resolved, good luck.

I mean, this was 2021….can you not add or drop classes from your phone in like 2 minutes from anywhere in the world? Serious question….I graduated college in 2003 so I don't know if that process has changed.

Definitely try to work with them and explain. It appears you enrolled, and they can likely charge you even if you didn't sit for the class.
I am an attorney and we learn pretty much day 1 that it is against the code of ethics and professional responsibility to give legal advice or advise a "client" (and yes, an online chat can arise to attorney-client relationship being formed) via social media/online forum/etc. So I'm not sure I would trust anyone giving you "free legal advice" that's actually legal advice over the internet. My suggestion, as an everyday person, would be to work with the school. You may owe them the money, but they should be amenable to working out a payment plan, or, if circumstances were dire/extreme, they may just let it go. If they do, of course, make sure you get that in writing so they don't kill your credit score and keep adding to the bill!

OMGoodness they are taking the pi**. Send them a registered letter (no e-mails) and explain you are not paying for anything you didn't have and add the parking ticket demand is fraud.
If they persist with this sht go with all letters and correspondence to a Citizens Advice office, don't use a lawyer. |

Eh, not sure the out of the country thing will be much of an excuse given the time frame. Prime Covid season, I.e everything was most likely provided through a virtual means and was never acted upon.
Regardless, good luck man. Sh*tty situation for sure, especially given you just got a new car I think. |

A big thing in the private college/university sector these days is FYE programs (first-year experience) for freshmen. There is an entire department charged with monitoring a freshman student's progress, with flashing red alerts on computerized warning dashboards for freshmen who are failing classes or have attendance issues. The problem would likely have been caught in time to get at least a partial refund for the no-show semester. Since the OP was at a public/state university, he obviously didn't get this type of service for the money...that he now has to pay.....
