Hello. You remove only the base around the mirror. The entire procedure should be quite similar to what this video demonstrates:

Oh you’re awesome, thank you! (And sorry for the double posting across the two sites) Quick question: I’ve never had a BMW, but I’ve done a wiretap in other cars and a few have had issues when unplugging the mirror wire, such as settings resetting or airbags deactivating. Are there any gotchyas here?

You are quite welcome. The cross-post was fine, too.

I cannot advise on wiring risks. All I can report is that in both my former i4 and my current i5, the harness that can be used for the MirrorTap pins does not need to be unplugged or removed. Also, if you are not sure which sockets are ground, switched, etc., use a multimeter to test them.

So to close the loop on the Blendmount issue: The bracket I had from my M550 works just fine in my i5 M60. Not sure why Blendmount thinks it won't and designing one is impossible. Installed it today and its just as it should be.

It fits tight and fine. It is a little lower than it was in the M550, but that's ok because there it was very close to the garage door buttons.

Just have to get my dealer to move the tap cord so it pops on the passenger side instead of driver (I've had the V1 on the windshield with suction powered by the tap for now.)

Great to hear. I've been meaning to try the mount from my X5 to see how it works.

I find it hard to believe something can’t be engineered to work.

In the meantime, I ordered this from Amazon in the hope it might work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’ll probably just have my guy install the mirror tap so that’s in and I can mount once a bracket is found that will work. It has to be just a matter of time. Perhaps someone here will figure it out. We put a man on the moon, for crying out loud!
But did we actually put a man on the moon?
