Request for Help: Picture of Mirror from Pass. Side on i5 w/ Driver Assistance Pro
Good morning -
Can someone who has taken delivery of an i5 with Driver Assistance Professional please post a pic of the mirror from the passenger side like these attached? Trying to determine if there is currently a Blendmount that will work for my Valentine V1. Have it installed like that and hardwired in my M550 and want to be ready to do the same when my M60 arrives. Anyone else done this yet/plan on doing it in their i5? Thanks in advance! |

Good reminder actually, I had forgotten I had a Blendmount.
Also wondering about the hardwiring options that will be available. In the X5 you were able to tap in to the mirror housing. I really wish they would put some USB ports in the housing to provide power. The new Mustang has that, which is brilliant, especially given the target demo for the car. |

I’m sure it can be tapped in the same way. The wire tap goes into the wiring harness for the rain sensing wipers. That should be all the same in there as it is on my current M550 (being replaced by the M60) and X5, both of which have hardwired, Blendmounted V1s.
Just need a picture of the mirror on a driver assistance pro equipped i5 for Blendmount to tell me which one I need. |

I don’t have an i5 and haven’t used a radar detector in my current G30, but I think tapping into the wires behind the mirror is not recommended. I know most people do it,using the alligator clips, and most don’t have issues. But the recommended way is to run the power off the fuse panel by the glove box and avoid potential current drops from the wire tap that could affect the electronics in cars. This is how I did it in my E46, E90 and F30. YMMV.

BlendMount replied to me not too long ago that the stem of the i5 is incompatible with their mounts. Hope another vendor is able to fill the gap at some point

Is that based on having seen a picture of it? I've corresponded with them and they are telling me they need a picture to know which mirror it is.

It was based off the image I provided. I'll attach it here.
The response I got was, "Unfortunately that is an incompatible mirror due to the mirror stem design. Our mounts won't work on that stem, and we have tried to create a mount without success. Sorry about that." with another image also attached. Hoping they come up with something or another vendor rises up to fill the gap |

Well, I got the same answer from Blendmount. I was hoping you just got someone who was having a bad day.
I find it hard to believe something can’t be engineered to work. In the meantime, I ordered this from Amazon in the hope it might work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I’ll probably just have my guy install the mirror tap so that’s in and I can mount once a bracket is found that will work. It has to be just a matter of time. Perhaps someone here will figure it out. We put a man on the moon, for crying out loud! |

I really love how tight and solid the BlendMount is. I'm going to wait it out and see if they find out a solution before buying a another product. But keep us posted.
BMW should just put some USB ports up there, it would save so much effort and hacking up of wires. The new Ford Mustang has that now. I think they advertise it for use with a dash cam, but I think we all know how it's really going to be used. |

Agreed across the board, Alewife. I’m not even sure how you’d really run a detector without mounting it there as, if I’m not mistaken, there is no lighter plug in the exterior console (only inside the storage bin).
My car is currently on the boat so don’t know for sure. But certainly don’t want to go back to the suction cups (that fall off) and the dangling cord. Someone has to figure this out. |

Alewife - How are you using your V1 in the meantime? My car will be here next week. Not sure what to do as a stopgap. I did receive the mount from Amazon and will see if I can get that to work in some capacity.
I get the challenge of the conical shape of that mirror mount. However, it seems like a mount with a grippy foam or something like that would work. |

Just picked up the car today, and I'm using the standard suction mount, and stretching the power cable to inside the back of the center console. I have the Uniden R7, but irrelevant for the BlendMount. Was hoping to be able to just buy a new mirror mount piece. Far from an ideal solution right now.

That stinks. I’m going to have my guy install the wiretap before I pick up my car (probably this coming weekend or early next) so that is done and ready for when I find a mount that works.
I’ll let you know if the Amazon one works—but, again, I simply reject the idea one cannot be engineered to work with that stem. |

Trivalent - That sure looks like it would stick. Ha.
What is it exactly? I’m thinking of the same placement, but using the 3M Velcro tape (like used on toll transponders) on the bracket. Read elsewhere that works well. That is, when I get my car. Stuck at port here now with stop sale…. |

The other of the stock Uniden mounts probably is the kind you don't like, with the two small suction cups on a metal clip bent at about a 50 degree angle. Good luck with the port! It won't be long now. |
