Let’s face it. If BMW had made the G60 the sedan version of the X5, with same perceived quality, materials, seats, etc, they’d probably have sold more G60s. It would have cost more but most would pay the difference. I certainly would. And longtime core customers would only be complaining it isn’t as nimble as the outgoing G30.

Not sure when you moved to the i5 M60, but by December (a bit over a month later) you were posting about things that were wrong with it, and that it isn't as good as one or more previous M550's you had. Even though you didn't order it, and didn't get one with DHP and didn't test drive one with DHP, you were sure that it couldn't handle anywhere near as good as the M550i. While I doubt this conclusion, it also skips the point that you probably just bailed out of the iX and landed in a M60 (probably a buy-back trade for something on the lot authorized by the GM).

You have a lot of posts on the G05 forum. Seems like you'd rather have one of those. You seem pretty sure that sensafin is the same as veganza, even though I test drove two cars back-to-back to check this out (i4 sensafin, i5 veganza), and was in the lounge fondling the material samples while my sales assistant was fishing up the next set of test-drive keys from the vault. I'm fine with personal opinions of comfort being different, but sorry, objectively these are not the same material and veganza is softer and far less obvious man-made material than the tougher feeling stamped/moulded sensafin with the visibly repeating grain pattern.

On 12/23/2024 you posted that you've had 6 cars in two years and have experienced buyers remorse multiple times. This indicates poor decision making.

I think you need to improve your vehicle shopping skills, do showroom visits and test drives (multiple [...]
Hmm seems like I upset you by speaking truths about your wonderful vehicle.

The fact that I’ve had 6 cars in last 2 years is my own problem. But it uniquely puts me in the position to opine on all of these different cars better than most. Trust me, I’ve been in more bmw dealers and spent more time there in the past few years than I’d ever care to admit.

You need to relax on criticism of the car. If you’re stalking all my posts you would also know that I’ve praised the vehicle many times… I gave it a 8.5 and the m550 a 9.5 and I said the EV convienence might even put the i5 m60 over the top for me.

So pls stop cherry picking my posts and attacking my car indecision / frequent swaps, all to come to the defense of the material quality and feature removal of the g60 which is undeniable. Whatever makes you sleep better at night about your purchase of fake leather is better than another. If it makes you happy Ill say it again- It’s still a great car. It’s a 93k bmw 5 series FFS.

I’ve been on various BMW forums for 25+ years now (ugh, starting to feel old when I say that) - will say that this is not a new trend. Every time BMW comes out with the new generation of 3/5/7, the fans of the prior gen come out loud about how much the new one sucks. Yet they typically do fine - some of the critics convert, some new customers start buying them, etc. Time will tell on the G60.

What we can’t deny, since BMW was very transparent about this to the media and investors, is that they had to significantly cut development costs during the pandemic in response to supply chain issues, inflation, and the significant $$ investment needed for future EV models. The new 5 series and new X3 are the first models to be released that were in development during that time period and it’s very obvious where they made all of the cuts. Both models get the same feedback about very cheap interior materials and decontenting. Everyone can try to remain in denial about this but BMW told us what they were doing and why.

Appreciate the responses, both are nice cars for sure, but it looks like I’m not the only one that noticed this. I wish more car companies would add hatchback’s so you could get most of the utility of an SUV, but handling of a sedan. That is one thing I love about my Tesla S, one of my first cars was a Saab 9000 it had the same it’s so much better than a trunk.

So has nothing to do with Idrive version then. It’s model specific and newer released model generations has this where the LCI g05 does not.

I think the difference is that the older G05 platform doesn’t support the interaction bar, and my modes is partly the same old drivetrain/chassis/steering setup presets, but also partly the lighting/sound environment setup. G60 has this hardware integration, so you get the whole thing. Next generation X5 might get it but that’s not something you get in a LCI refresh.

Agreed. They are not good. Standard drive moves are better and give more option for customization. It’s a Step back for sure

I had the exact decision when I bought my car. I simply liked the interior better than the x5. I liked the ambient lighting and also the center portion better on the 5 series. I did not feel like I lost anything going 550e vs x5 and I test drove both.
