I didn't select the small one in the US market - it just came as standard. By NOT selecting the sky lounge roof, the small one came default. I suspect it's the same in the European market, but I'm not sure. There are probably some European owners here who can tell you.

Waiting for 2025's

Hello. I'm new to this thread. I am retired US Military and stationed overseas as a DoD Civilian. I am waiting for the 2025 price list to order my new 540i X-Drive with pretty much all the options. I have been debating between whether or not I want the sky lounge roof or the standard moon roof. I don't really want the Executive package, because the only thing I can't order with the Premium package is the glass controls. I have no real interest in those. But I am looking at either the Sky Lounge or Regular Moon roof, and the Harman-Kardon or Bowers and Wilkins sound system. Are either of them really worth it? I have every other option selected, Including the M-Sport and M-Sport professional with the red calipers.

So far in my personal experience I have a Mercedes CLC-200 with the glass roof. And the black glass (Even with the shades closed) turns my little car into an oven in the summer in Southern Spain.

That said, When I do leave here to go back to the US at the end of my tour, it will likely be back to Seattle. I used to have a Volkswagen CC there with the glass roof as well. It was nice enough year round, but in the summer I used to leave it tilted when I was at work so it would let the heat out. Any opinions?

Having lived in Europe several times over my career, I can say the European Market is waaay different than the US market. I bought a BMW 325i in 1995 here US Specs. It came with a Sunroof, but the European versions did not. They also had manual windows in the rear and cloth seats (Also not available in US version). I can tell you the 540i is not available to the EU market. Most gas vehicles are the smaller engines, or Diesel.

The Bowers & Wilkins sound system is definitely worth the upgrade. I wish there was another upgrade to get the diamond system, but oh well. It has very clear sound and good separation. I think enough has been said about sky lounge and sun roof. The one thing is that BMW does have a power cover, where other cars do not (Tesla, Lucid, Mach E). I can’t comment on whether or not it gets hot. It’s not summer and none of us have driven this car in the summer, yet. It hasn’t been out that long.

Sorry if this is a duplication, but does anyone know if it is possible to delete having either the moonroof or panorama panel? I never open the moonroof or the shades anyways. Perhaps a special order, and probably no reduction in cost.

The B&W is absolutely worth it, though as others have said it would have been nice to have an option for the Diamond. Still, I found it a solid improvement over the HK. I test drove a couple with the sky lounge and ultimately went with the standard roof. I like to open my moon roof fairly often, and I found that the fixed roof mainly benefitted rear seat occupants, which I don't often have these days. Our X5 has the best of both worlds -- full panoramic, with sky lounge led lighting, as well as a forward portion that opens.

My understanding when I asked my rep was that the factory assembles all the US Spec bodies with the cutout for the sunroof already there. if you order the sky lounge option, they cut out the roof skin and install the glass one over the supports. He could have been bowing smoke, but that's the answer I got.

I opted for the Sky Lounge Panoramic roof for my new 540ix. I had opening moon roofs in my previous Audi S6 and M5 and both developed rattles and creaks over time, which really bothered me. My last Audi was an S7 that came with a large, pano moon roof which did open, but in 3 years I never opened it once… not once, and I didn’t miss it. I like to open the screen periodically to allow passengers to see the view, especially in the mountains. And warm temperatures haven’t been a problem… it was 100° in California Wine Country today and the interior remained very cool. I am very happy with my choice. Whatever you choose, you will enjoy it!
