Question What Type of Winter set ups do you use?

Hey guys just wanted to see what you guys are using for Winter Setups, I wanna also know if any of you are getting away with All-Seasons in the Fall/Winter around this area? My M is my Daily Driver so gotta drive in the Winter what do other M DD's do? Thanks in advance

If it's your DD, you'll need to drive in the snow at least a few times during the winter. I would highly recommend snow tires on all four corners. However, avoid driving in snow any deeper than 4-5 inches as the front air damp acts as a great snow plow!

Try a wheel/tire package from Tire Rack. They have a great selection of both wheels and tires to choose from and their prices are reasonable. If you buy the combo they'll mount and balance for free. They can ship to your house so you can install or drop ship to a shop near you (they can recommend shop) for installation on your car. And, no I don't work for them but have done this at least three times with them over the years.

+1. I live up in CT and my first winter with the M I was using it as a DD. I didnt really care for performance and just wanted a set of Snows to get me safely to and from work. I ordered a winter tire/rim package from tirerack and had them delivered to a local goodyear tire shop. Basically a square setup of blizzaks mounted and balanced on 18's with TPMS. Came out to around $1400. Again this was a basic setup which was all I needed. There are much more expensive performance orriented winter tires but I just wanted ones to get me from point a to b. Keep in mind like mentioned above if you can avoid driving the car in heavy snow do it as even with great snows you can still spin out.

18x8.5 square with snow tires. I don't DD, just a weekend car so I'll avoid any real snowfall if I can.

This.
I used this set-up with Michelin Alpins in 245/40-18 on all four corners. Also added 12mm spacers in the rear. The car was a beast in the snow. Spent a winter west of Syracuse NY and never got stuck. Used to turn off DSC and have a blast. Can't drive in more than 6 inches of snow for too long though due to snow plow effect plugging the lower grill.

I live in the city and use my competition wheels with blizzaks and I have never had a problem ever.

I had a square setup of blizzaks for my 335 and it went like hell in the snow.

For the M I have the OEM 219s with pirelli sottozeros - havent tried them out yet because I just picked up the car in March.

Snow tires work better on cold pavement than all-seasons, so even on dry pavement there is an advantage there.

I have the Tire Rack set up as well; Blizzak's on 18" tire rack rims with TPMS. I just swap em on this time of year (sad that I'm considering putting them on this early).

The Sport Edition A7's? I have them too and I'm dreading mounting them. They're serviceable but they're so ugly.

I thought the same thing, seems early to do a swap but it is getting cold enough. Plus my rear PSS are gone already, looks like this rear set only lasted 8K miles.

Yep, those are the ones I have. Personal goal is basically to drive the car as little as possible Nov-Mar so i can avoid the eye-sore.

Likewise, and I know if I wait, it'll snow earlier than expected and I'll be in trouble.

I use the same tirerack set up as some others above (blizzaks on A7s) but I plastidipped the wheels black so they're a little more bearable than before

LOL same here. They are nastly but functional looking critters. Its rediculous how much they change the driving characteristics of the car. I usually am only able to bear them from december to late march, then off they come.

I appreciate everyones help and replies. I decided to go with the Blizzak LM60's instead of the All Seasons, definitely would rather be safe than sorry, especially since I can't get another "New" M3 if I crash and total it. But either way I wanna give a Thank You to member Villanofun here on M3post.com He bought an 08 M3 which came with 2 sets of wheels and tires, one winter and one summer. I bought the 220M's with the Blizzaks off him and can't wait to put them on and not worry about the weather.
