Well if BMW is going this direction their market research could suggests there will be no one to sell your G80 too. That is unless BMW is wrong…?
What I don’t understand at the moment is how all the American manufacturers are pumping the brakes on EVs and German manufacturers are sending it. Maybe has more to do with materials and supply chain vs EV market demand? |

I’m not pro shoving EV regs down people’s throats and EV enthusiasts preaching people who prefer ICE cars are the problem. (They are not) When manufacturers improve the technology, improve reliability, reduce weight, reduce end to end lifecycle cost/impact to the environment and put out a better overall product these things will sell themselves.

Not a huge fan of full EV (I think Porsche is doing it right with the 992.2 GTS), but it piqued my interest so I randomly looked at used Audi RS etron GT’s. $170k new selling for $80k 1-2 years old used with 9k miles on them! 100k depreciation in two years! You’d be a complete moron to buy a new EV in this market including the new EV M3 when it comes out.

I could be wrong but it looks like they retract to sit flush. Maybe they come out when you park/unlock the car? It would also reduce drag and wind noise so my guess is the final version will have retracting door handles.

I just sold my 2021 Tesla Model 3 with 65k miles on it for $25k, and think that’s quite respectable considering.
EV’s are currently like iPhones on wheels, as the tech advances you’ll want the newest, latest, and greatest model. But that will level out, until then it’s best to lease them. I leased my first 4 EV’s for that very reason, and picked up $30k ($7500x4) in free money in the process…

If performance is what counts, the EV will be more efficient, have instant torque, and be quicker/faster in 90% of people's daily driving needs. Honestly, it's nice having ICE vehicles around, because it is thoroughly entertaining hearing their engines screaming next to you as they fight to keep up with an EV. A 5000lb Taycan Turbo GT turns quicker Nurburgring times than any production BMW. You are kidding yourself if you think this isn't sufficient for your track needs. And then in straight line performance, the Taycan Turbo GT will leave any stock BMW.
Latest polls show 1% of EV owners actually want to go back to a gas car.

Also, almost all new cars will be EVs in less than a couple of decades. Meanwhile, you can keep lying to yourself.

The used price is about $3 Million, more expensive than a new one (Which is about t$2.5Million). As they only make like 40 a year.

If it fit my use case, absolutely.
I've owned two Model 3's, one a performance, and driven multiple EV's including many Taycan's, Etron GT, Rivian, etc. There is MUCH to be gained from the EV platform. There are always tradeoffs, of course. I went back to G80 M3 ICE because that's the experience I wanted out of my daily driver because my use case is much shorter daily trips, and I wanted one car to do it all. I do not feel like the something like a Taycan would fit the bill for that. But if I still had a 911 or another, maybe older M3 for weekends and fun trips, an EV M3 as a daily would honestly be better. |
