What seat are you using? We have a Chicco KeyFit30 and there's no fucking chance it would have fit in the 1er.

No, I think a big part of the problem is the shape of the X5s seat back, it returns back at the top of the seat. Using the same child seat she actually as much more space in my S4

I don't know why is it that your car seats don't fit in a SUV, but this is not normal. Rear facing car seats fitted just fine in my normal car

It's the sister in law's, a Britax of some sort, I'll double check. We don't have our own yet, but have shuttled hers around in each car. For some reason she was never cool with my M Coupe, even though it killed the air bags, in theory.

Interesting, does the X5 rear seat back recline? The X1 has adjustment all the way back to about 15 degrees, which helps square things up.

Don't get me wrong, my sister has had Suburbans for ages and they're great for what they are, it's the one truly flawless product GM makes. She shuttles tons of teenagers around, so I get why she needs the size, I just don't have that demand, yet...

The seats fit better in my car too (2013 S4). Once we are in booster seats a 911 will work.

With the 3rd row the middle seat does slide and recline, it is all the way back and all the way reclined.

We actually went and looked at the new Range Rover, the seat fit much better in it. I am not paying $100k+ so my wife can trash a new truck

They do look great though! I didn't catch that you were trying to fit the kid seat in the way back, my mistake. Yeah, X5 third rows are a joke. If you really need that kind of space, you're going to benefit from something bigger. What about the Kleenex Box, err, Disco?

But it is very nice when you can haul your entire family of 5 and your dog(s) to your parents house a few hours away and have room for luggage. Not to mention the times when you pick up your nephews so they can come over play with your two sons. Did I mention that my parents have lots of land, so we often bring our four wheelers down and sometimes our boat to go fishing.

I grew up with my family having 5 seater cars, but time change. If it where about what you absolutely need, everyone would have cars with no more than 200hp/200ft lbs and there would be 1 TV in every house.

Everyone has different needs. This is why they make more than one type of car. I guess it makes us more of an enthusiast to discredit anything that isn't suited for our particular taste.

Don't worry, he faps to everything that comes from GM.

Front doesn't look bad, rear is OK. It's not exactly going to win award of the year. Just another Chevy Suburban with some Caddy frosting on it.

I've had an "enthusiast" scoff at my purchase of a Range Rover Sport for my girlfriend for the reasoning that a Jeep SRT-8 is faster. I LOLd.

There are few SUVs as comfortable as an Escalade/Denali for long trips. I borrow my father's Denali every now and then...it's great.

Laws have changed. You're not allowed to leave the hospital with a newborn without a rear-facing car seat. Good luck getting that into an MK1 Golf - or an MKVI for that matter. I never thought I would be on this side of this argument but having just had our first, we quickly found out that our FX35 and S4 are both too small for life with a small child. We take a fair amount of road trips and my wife has to sit almost verticle in both cars. We are getting a Grand Cherokee for additional room.
Haha. Since I don't have any kids yet, thanks for filling me in. I had no idea car seats were any different now vs. when my brother and I were born in the 80s.

I really need to see it in person. I hope the back makes more sense in the real world. Everytime Caddy unveils a new car, I'm always a little underwhelmed by pictures. Their design language, to me, is much more appreciated in person.

My brother is 6'5" his wife is every bit of 5'11" so they do tend to have the seats back a bit. Their main complaint with the gl is the width, she likes to be able to get between the two in the back seat occasionally on long trips, but they definitely do have some issues with front seat space and rear facing seats.

Once booster seats/forward facing seats are an option the problems go away.

It should also be noted that I come from a long of idiots. We think nothing of jumping in the car and going 200 miles in each direction for a weekend.

When I say road trip, I mean 400 - 500 miles + each way (which we are doing next week)

I think they nailed it on the design... except for the tail lights. They really dropped the ball on that one IMO. Very Volvo-like.

If they would have remained more traditional as they are on the newly face-lifted Denali Yukon/Suburban, then all would be well with this.

Otherwise, this is right on par with what GM has been putting out lately. I'm just disappointed in that one key element.

Looks decent enough but wtf is wrong with that gear selector behind the steering wheel? It takes only one ugly stick to ruin some good work.
