WiFi + Cellular iPads have constantly had activation problems with physical and eSIMs.

Edit and Update: I called T-Mobile, and sure enough it added another esim line to my account, which I had deleted.
I have T-Mobile as well, and worked with them on support calls 2-3 times. To make a long story short, here are the highlights you need to know.
  • The new lines are being created due to the bug in the car's software. Others who have received the latest update indicate that it is fixed. When you get your update, you can let us know.
  • As long as the new lines that are created on your account are at $0/month and you don't get charged for them, I would just ignore them. That's what I was advised to do by T-Mobile. They made a point of me not having to be inconvenienced any more, and that they would take care of is as necessary until the software bug is fixed. So far (about 2 months), I have ignored it and have not been billed, and the eSIM still works. However T-Mobile is handling it in the interim, it seems to be working.

They typically come out OTA in the US about three months after they're available at the dealer. So I am thinking maybe February.

Do you have any delay after startup before data is available? With the physical sim card it does take a minute or so and you have to disconnect calls when leaving the car. So I’m considering going back to the Ubigi eSIM to allow CarPlay to be used again.

I have not had any complains from my son so far. So I guess it's live quick. Only when crossing borders, it does have a delay. Just as our regular phones.

Tested during the winter holiday drive to Austria.

I hope the new update fixes this for me I've had the message in my app for months now when I tried to delete my ESIM and re-add it

I have already cancelled the service with T Mobile months ago not sure why this is still there I'm not sure the update is going to clear this maybe I should delete my car form the app and re-add and thoughts

Wait for some opinions on deleting it. I recall some mixed experiences with this and lots of pain, from some threads.

Long very long response

I had the update installed a dealer the first week it was available to them. It did not repair. My eSIM still kept saying three out of four completed. I call my service provider AT&T. We tried to get the numbers associated to the car. Deleted. Long story short, they ended up adding more services and charge me for two services that never worked so I did notice some other bugs like my sync and other Buttons were acting up so I had everything canceled at AT&T for connected services. I Wait two weeks went back to the dealer had reinstalled Ver 11.2024 this time all the bugs were eliminated, but still the ESIM had three out of four couldn’t set up. every time I try to set up I could not sync my phone number to the AT&T only number available was my wife’s I called AT&T they said it had to be the BMW connected drive service not released eSIM number associated with account. so I called BMW assist today and they told me that it’s a known issue than not all issues were completely repaired. The eSIM issue is now going to be about in March. Is the new date they targeting for correcting this issue

sorry for the long response.
Weird thing I for some reason thought try to see if ATT had my cell as option. And guess today lucky day. It was. So the setup on ATT said complete. Guess give it couple days if my BMW reflects that. Also my cell was able to use the bmw WiFi network so guess it may be done. Will see tomorrow
