Have no idea why Rolex would use the oysterflex instead of the gator strap as they did before for this watch. Oysterflex is cheap.

There must be many reasons , albeit leather itself is a fancy item to be incorporated into a watch ,Daytona being a sports car more than you say Sky Dweller, Daye Date , oysterflex would suit better and exactly perfect fit for a sports watch . I had a Rolex Daytona 116518 LN with leather . It looked nice but I swapped it for RubberB and as soon as I made that swap , the watch made its presence felt better than it would do with leather strap .
Oysterflex , a rubber variant but as far as I know it's more durable than any leather you would throw at this watch because Rolex being a Rolex doesn't use a regular rubber band , makes it hardened using some mixtures to make it as durable as a regular steel strap

So incredibley blessed to add this grail piece to my collection. Just in time for my 50th birthday.

It came on an alligator strap. Stopped by Patek HQ in NYC yesterday and had the strap switched to the rubber strap for the summer.

porshah, is that considered one of the finest watches available?
I know it's extremely good, but whats the opinion of the watch by the high-end collectors.

Patek is generally regarded as high quality, highly sought after by many watch collectors. There are many fine watches available on the market today. For me this particular model has always been a dream to own.

Each person you ask may have a unique answer to what they consider the finest quality.

I'd say they are a universally-accepted top tier manufacturer. Awesome buy and congrats. Wear in good health!

I think that's spot on and Patek would be in the view of most the top end of "normal" watches. Before the watch-geeks tear me a new one, I don't mean normal in terms of a Timex or Seiko being normal. I think Patek and JLC are the top of what most would consider reasonable before getting into really insane shit like Richard Mille.

To make a simple analogy it's like Porsche makes really nice high end normal cars (for the most part) whereas Pagani is not something most folks would entertain when looking at vehicles.

Hell I don't know, although that would be an interesting conversation. Just picked something rare and obscure.

I'd be interested to try and line up some mainstream nice watch manufacturers and find their car equivalent. Just off the top of my head:

IWC - Porsche?
Omega - Audi?
Panarai - hmmm
Graham - Morgan?
Patek - Benz?
JLC - BMW?

Just getting the convo started, trying to keep in line with quality vs peers, brand image, etc.

IWC - Porsche I agree wth though now they're doing some Mercedes branded stuff, but the Porsche IWC collaboration created the stuff I like.

Morgan I'd relate to Roger Smith? but maybe Graham - that's a tough one.

Most of the mainstream high end watch manufacturers do a crazy end of the market watch like minute repeaters or Grand Sonnerie etc...

From 300k to over $2million.

Check out this JLC all $2.5 million of it, happily they give you 2 daily beaters to go with the Grand Sonnerie.

The thing with Jomashop and other similar online stores is many if not all of the watches they carry are "grey" market. Meaning they're typically not an authorized dealer for the various watches they sell. That's why they're able to give really good deals on watches which typically only sell for retail or near it. The warranty is usually through them or through a third party like Assurant.

I bought a few watches this way through various grey market dealers. So far no issues with any of the watches from Movado to Maurice Lacrouix.
