S5 test drive.
Well....
They want 5K as a deposit. The 1st dealer only needs 1k. So Mr. test drive dealership is out. Nice young guy. Big boy. 6'5" about 260. First impression...fairly good size machine. Seats are top notch. Firm, grippy and great ergonomics. Pretty busy cabin. Knobs and switches every where. Now for the drive. The car sounds awesome. I have to admit the Quattro(sp) system with the nice V8 is a weird feeling at first. I nailed it in 2nd and expected some tail dipping and maybe some chirping. It stayed as level as standing still. I would need a few more ponies to be happy. I will research what will be available. $$$ probably. Every other car was staring which I don't mind. There were 3 people waiting to drive it when we got back. I like it. The size will become a non issue. Got in my SSTT 335 and it felt like a go cart. I wish I could have both. I am an older fart that needs and wants a little more luxury. He mentioned it will be available with a TT in a year or so.

I understand what you mean about making the 335i feel like a Go-kart. Some of this is the quattro system and some the steering but most is the actual width of the thing. It may be only 2" wider but it feels like a foot until you get use to it.

Rounded numbers actually show the S5 at 78" wide and the 335 at 79". The Audi is 54" tall to the e90's 56". The length is what I see as larger. 183" Audi, 178" BMW. The dash was really expansive though. Interior was great.

The think you have your figures wrong, the 335i is 1782mm wide minus wing-mirrors compared to 1854mm for the S5, that makes the S5 actually bigger than I though, 72mm or near enough 3" wider.
Here's a link to both manufacturers' sites to prove what I am saying. http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/ne...imensions.html http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/pricesand...-bmwuk,00.html I think another reason is the bonnet (hood) doesn't slope away like the 3series one does, making it look longer than it really is. |

I don't think they will make a 2nd engine for the S5. But he may have been talking about a RS5, which definately would have more power and a much higher MSRP. Probably more expensive than the current RS4, so your looking at $80k+.

The only reason why this might not happen is that it will place the car is direct competition with the M6 which would sound highly unlikely. |
