Add BMW to the list of OEMs that use Brembo brake systems

Without much further description, reports are out that BMW is now on board with large scale purchases of Brembo brake systems. Details on which cars, models or submodels would use such brake systems are sparse. However, first thoughts might be on BMW M-models, although cross branding on the ///M range may seem unlikely. Another option would be the upcoming 135i which is being touted as a small import like sports car that comes with fixings such as 6-pot calipers.

its probably just orders for the 135i... it is coming with 6-pot brembos. Maybe they will be included on a performance/sport package for the higher end 3-series cars (most likely 335i only?) May also be part of a potential competition package for the new M3 or for the CSL versions?

also remember brembo is a manufacturer of oem rotors. so these may be parts for standard brake systems as well.

Interesting. A lot of companies are going that route these days. Although i'm not sure it makes that big of a difference off the track. Having driven the new acura RL that has OEM brembos, I don't get the feeling that they're that much superior to the OEMs on our car. Granted, these are by far the best stock brakes i've ever experienced.

During the last Taste of Lexus Event here at FedEx Field, the ISF was displayed on the track grounds with Brembos Red Brakes that can be distinctly seen from afar

I hope not, because I have been in cars with Brembo and they in no way feel as good as my 335i breaks. Perhaps they stop slightly shorter, but I don't like the feel of them as compared to OEM BMW breaks.

Just another way to shake $2-3k out of owners pockets at the point of purchase and every time you have the brakes serviced...

More Hype for crap that has a label on it, providing little real benefit...

The Brembo's on my '04 G35 were nothing to ride home about. BMW's current line of brakes work extremely well IMHO.

I'm with you on this. It is no secret that Brembo calipers are also there for image/marketing purposes.

Look at STIs, 350Zs,G35s, all new TypeS Acuras they all come equipped with fancy colored Brembo calipers. Consumers now associate Brembo as being the best brakes out there.

E30s and E36s used to have OEM Brembo rotors. Was it worth mentioning it before the Brembo hype?

If these trends continue, maybe all sports cars in the future will not only have brembos, but will also come equipped with BBS wheels.

uh, that wake up should have happened 3 years ago when brembos were offered on the Nissan 350Z. Brembo will have no problem private labeling...they do it for porsche, ferrari and many other car manufacturers.

I didn't quite felt the difference on my "sold" Acura TSX (maybe because they were smaller than my BMs). I'm not even sure if it's on my 07 Acura MDX. I can feel my 335 xi has better brakes,....the only thing I hate is to much brake dust I have to wipe off my wheels every day or two. I wish they use better pads which I'm going to replace with something different once they're worn out. So except for looks, I am not quite moved by this, knowing as well I can switch to Brembos if I like to in the future once the OEMs are done.

It's all marketing/hype. Just another way for the dealers to squeeze more money out of you when your car goes in for servicing. I'll tell you straight up that my moms MB E350 brakes feel a lot more responsive compared to my Brembos on my STi.
