WRC discovered!

I know rally racing has been around for decades and has given us some of the most wonderful road cars (Audi Quattro, etc.), but it's always been hard to find on major media. So, the other night I'm surfing YouTube and I do a WRC search looking to see if I can find a highlight or two. To my surprise, I found the entire 2013 season with full coverage episodes - for free!! I spent hours watching and the next thing I know, I'm on the Ford site specing out a Fiesta ST! After I calmed down, I searched for the official WRC site, and found the video section and guess what - IT'S FREE TOO! And its the most exciting racing I've found since MotoGP - and I can watch FOR FREE! The 2014 season is already starting and I am in!

WRC is amazing. Pretty soon you'll be watching vintage rally videos and scouring the 'net for a 1983 Audi Ur quattro.......

The Manx TT is mega.......

But, up until the late 1980's, there used to be a major international rally on the Isle of Man as well.........

Here's a clip from the 1982 Manx Rally, just as the Audi Quattro was on the point of rendering all the old 'proper' rwd rally machinary redundant.........I remember this particular '82 event vividly - makes me feel bloody old

But in the last 10 years its turned rather poo poo. Same with moto gp its poo poo too! Only 2 works teams next year - how exciting

This is what makes me a motorsport freak, just this. F1/GrC, Touringcars/DTM is nice but not the real deal. This is.
(Though I like the old '80/'90 BTCC /DTM stuff too)

I'm from this era, I was 12 in '82. And a big Rally/GR B and Vatanen fan.

ATM in WRC it's sad there are not many manufacturers and Loeb quit(probably the world's best driver of the last decade...) but Ogier, Latvalla etc are doing fine. I just love the (looks of) the Polo WRC.

Cheers
Robin

This season could end up being one of the most interesting in years. Loeb's domination of the sport and the total lack of any competition for Loeb since Gronholm retired has rendered the WRC a shadow of its former self in recent years.

However, Loeb is now gone, thankfully, although it would have been interesting to see him driving a car other than a Citroen, to see if he could have matched the feats of Kankkunen, who won 4 world titles with three different manufacturers. Alas, we shall never know now.

But, 2014 sees 4 works teams for the first time in quite a while (if you count M-Sport as the "official"unofficial Ford factory team) and also quite a shuffle in the driver line up as well, so it could make for a more interesting season than we have seen for some time.

10 minutes of WRC is more exciting than anything that has happened in the last 10 years in F1.
