At this angle can't really tell... Could be a different stage of some kind of cricket considering the 6 legs and long antennae. How big is it? It's definitely not a termite...

Thank you for replies. Please see below for another angle of "the creature" and also is another pic from a while ago. I asked the director of biology @ Rutgers and he's never seen it before.

Damn biology director at a college didn't know? Google is going to replace us all one day.

I typed in "brown bug with spikes."

@kits&templar

It is behind a window. It's rainy in NJers. I have seen 3 of these insects in my life and they are the size of praying mantis respectfully.

I see these bugs about the same time every year. They can cluster together for an orgy. I have always been told these are stink bugs and I don't know the origin of the name. I believe in NJ they call these pets....j/k

Hahah perhaps! They kill pests..

Atleast they don't make themselves known like spiders I am having a hard time ridding my tdi commuter of them (Thank god). After an hours drive of feeling them crawl on me I think I feel them the whole day at work.

I beg to differ as the stink bug is a pentatomoidea. A wheel bug is a reduviidae. Both are hemiptera, buts that's like calling a catfish a trout...

It's not a stink bug. Stink bugs typically have that shield type look to their body. My sister's dorm was infested with stink bugs. These things are bigger and shaped differently.

Here is a stink bug:

Although apparently both of these bugs can cause a smell, the stink bug above is far worse than the wheel bug.

You can throw facts like this and you're asking a bunch of internet motorheads what species of insect you saw?

Templar's previous post had a link that said "reduviidae" was the suborder of the family. I'm not too keen on identifying insects but I like to keep myself informed
