Audi RS5 - Car Mag UK
Anyone remember this short article from 5/11?
The RS5? Already? Audi is busy prepping three new versions of its new A5 coupe – headlined by this blistering 450bhp RS5 that arrives early next year to take on its new BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 rivals. Like all R models, the topdog A5 has been fully developed by Quattro, Audi’s in-house go-fast engineering team. As our impressions show, the RS5 will get the full Quattro treatment. The glorious high-revving 4.2-litre V8 that powers the RS4 gets plumbed into the RS5’s nose, complete with two small and highly responsive turbochargers that will take peak power up to the 450bhp. That’s not a great deal more than the S5’s 354bhp, but the RS5 searing pace will come from its phenomenal blower-enhanced torque – expect at least 500lb ft of twist action to plateau across the rev range. So another low-flying German missile? You betcha. With its quattro all-paw grip, the RS5 should scrabble to 60mph in four and a half seconds and hit an easy 155mph before the electronics call it a day. Like the S5, the hot RS5 will exploit the new A5 chassis layout, which has shifted the front axle 120mm further forward for a better 55:45 front-rear balance. But don't think that the RS5 will be a mere point-and-shoot speed weapon – Quattro waved it magic wand over the RS4, and the RS5 is expected to be just as pin-sharp to drive. To this end, the RS5’s rear-biased quattro system will give the big coupe a more neutral handling balance. To keep the RS4 on the straight and narrow and keep a tight rein on body control, it will be fitted with carbon ceramic brakes lifted from the R8, 19inch alloys, as well as modified magnetic ride dampers borrowed from the TT. All this technology and pace will come at a price – expect the RS5 to wade in with a £53,000 price tag, in line with BMW’s £50,625 M3. |

Well, not sure about the conversion rate, but as far as leases go...if the S5 is currently leasing at ~ $1,000-$1,200/mo. for 3-yr./36k mi. (MF .00325), then this RS5 will be at ~ $1,600/mo...ha ha. No thank you; I'd rather have an Porsche, a CPO'd Aston Martin or Ferrari for that kind of $$.

For example when the new RS6 resently came with 580 HP, BMW responded instantly and upgraded the M5 to a 575HP version(It`s lighter and will be faster). There has been an HP race between the two companies for a long time and I don`t think BMW will give up this time either. But I don`t know this, it`s just a guess. Time will tell... |

^575 when did this happen? But the rs5 with a procede (if shiv makes one) could dominate most cars on the road.

Also, you're talking about the M5 575bhp version, we dont actually have any official numbers I dont think, correct me if I'm wrong. I also wonder how much it'll cost. There is also strong chance of the RS6+ with well over 600bhp. I'm not saying horsepower is everything though. Infact the opposite. I think these days we can achieve great amounts of power, we just need to focus on efficiency etc. Oh yeah, and the RS5, well firstly I think the S5 has equal presence to the new M3 on the road. The A5 platform actually looks a class above the E92 platform. It has a more chunkier 6 series look about it, looks much better though. I think the RS5 will look much better than the new M3, and I dont think Audi will skip on performance either. I've heard that they might reduce the engine size and make it turbo'd. I've got my money on a new 4.0TFSI based on the new RS6 engine. It should produce around 465bhp and 100nm more torque than the M3

Is this confirmed? or just speculation?
My 335i was supposed to go into production at the end of this month, but I cancelled the order a while ago when I had heard the RS5 might be getting a TTV8. I had a feeling Audi would just stick the NA 4.2L V8 into it, but slapping a couple turbos on there is gonna be amazing! A twin turbo V8 revving to 8300rpm..

I find it rather hard to believe that they wouldn't just drop the RS4 engine into the RS5 and that it would outpower the R8. This only seems plausible if the RS4 at least and perhaps R8 get new engines as well.

Yeah I know they're making an RS5, that's why I cancelled my 335i order.
It's the motor that I'm asking about. TTV8 or NAV8?

take a look at the new R8 or SR8 or w/e its being called with the V10 motor in it... back on the ring after that wonderful fire. this time its packed with a fire extinguisher. so i assume the R8 will get a bump, RS5 will get some crazy motor too...audi is learning to play hardball with bmw, but still has to re-think the A4/A5 platform motor-wise |

I'm not sure I know what that means.. I'm guessing you mean, "why would Audi make an RS without turbos?" Well because, the RS4 doesn't have turbos, and the R8 doesn't have turbos. It would be easier for Audi just to drop the NA 4.2L V8 into the RS5. I've heard rumors saying it will be turbocharged, and it wont be turbocharged. I've been waiting to here an actual confirmation, from Audi, one way or another.

Check again buddy..
The RS4 NEVER had turbos.. *edit* Actualy I believe the RS4 was turbocharged, but that like 10 years ago, and it may have never even been released. If it was, it extremely limited production and Euro only. But, that's besides the point when were talking about the only RS4 to ever be released in the US. *edit again* Nice job deleting your post.

Now, with the new chassis alone I think the RS5 would be a great improvement over the RS4. However I think we can expect a new engine. I've got my money on a 4.0TFSI based on the new RS6 engine. It makes sense. The RS6 is puting out over 600bhp (that's the real figure I've heard) and has a huge amount of torque over a great rev range. It makes sense, all the framework is there. Audi only need to reduce the engine size and we have a beast!
