I think they're definitely among the most distinctive lighting designs for DRL's!

i think the corvette's new taillights are very refreshing and look sway better than the cheap looking round drop ins.

I love the appearence of angel eyes, it is an absolute unique and distinctive brand recognition item.
Speaking of which, I have noticed that the rearview appearence of white angel eyes is not so unique then it was when they were amber/golden. It seems to me that the white light emitted from newer Angeleyes kind of blur out when they re in distance, while the golden/yellow ones arent. I have noticed that last evening, when I passed an F30 which was driving on the right lane while I was being followed by an E90. When the E90 was right next to F30 and I was about 150meters ahead of them I still could clearly see the Ringshape of the E90´s AA while the AA´s from the F30 kind of blurred out and all I saw was 2 white clouds.... What you guys think is it designwise or does it have to do with the different light energy emmited from LED and Halogen lamps? |

That is what I love about the Angle Eyes. With them, you always know the brand of car coming toward you. Audi, Merc, Lexus all have varying style of these lights but none are consistent from model to model, heck even year to year, so you never really know the brand.

That's a nice reference to BMW. I wonder if BMW will be hopping on the Audi wagon like everyone else is. I hope not, but I must admit the way the Mercedes used that to make Fog Lights looks pretty nice.

But hey they did forget to mention the BMW Kidney Grills. I think that's been the biggest icon of the BMW face than the more recent Angel Eyes. They've done a great job of keeping it consistent too. I respect BMW for that.
Someones a designer might not like that grill and want to go down a different path. Other companies have that luxury. BMW has been taking that design principle and made it work and look sexy no matter what the cost. Respect. BMW for life!

corona rings...
According to BMW, they are actually called "corona rings." Which actually makes a lot more sense than "angel eyes." Hell, even the term "halos" are more appropriate from a descriptive stand point. I have never once looked at the front of my car and thought "angels."

I absolutely love the white coronas, it's a shame I rarely get to see them since they are on when I'm behind the wheel. I always like it when I'm stopped behind a car with a mirror paint finish and I can see the eyes reflecting back at me. That and when I park in front of a storefront window and the coronas fully reflect back at me.
I imagine there's an Audi design engineer or two that would love to use the 4 coronas as headlights to symbolize the 4 rings. |
