Kendrick Lamar's VERSE (Hip Hop Thread)

*DISCLAIMER* This thread may not apply to a majority of members here, but feel free to chime in!

Who has heard Kendrick Lamar's verse in Big Sean's "Control"?

His verse has the internet going nutz and it's re-viving hip hop back to its original roots. Blogs are calling it the best verse in hip hop history.

What did you guys think and will this spark up the good days of hip hop?

EDIT: 2:27 is the part that's most controversial.

Just heard it now. And was not impressed. Really annoying background. But then, I don't like hip hop so my opinion is of little value.

I'm curious if others like the above though - I truly hate the stupid background sound.

Mehhh. I wouldn't call it the best verse in hip hop history. It does have a freestyle type flow to it. Which they don't do anymore. The music reminds me of snoop dogs murder was the case back in the 90s.

haha thanks for sharing your opinion though! I try to stay open to all genres of music, but my roots are hip hop.

I noticed your from Canada... you may or may not be aware but Toronto is getting a lot of buzz this past year by the artist's from your town. Cheers!

Its ok, its difficult to understand and I listen to hip hop a lot. Maybe if I read the lyrics it might be a different story.

Pure fire. I love it.

His verse is blowing up, not because he has beef with everybody, but because he's striving to be the best at what he does. We all want to be the best at what we do. There's nothing new about that. But not many of us have the balls to call out everybody and tell them that you want to do better than them.

B.o.B's response "How 2 Rap" is so lame. Can't wait to hear the rest of the Kendrick diss tracks that come out.

Maybe it will push the rappers still in the game to produce better music. We'll see.

300 Bars was awesome. But I lost all respect for The Game after he left G-Unit. All his tracks turned into talking shit about people.

This and it's starting a shift in hip hop. Way too many rappers have been comfortbale making anything because people have been just taking it.

Kendrick just picked up a volcano and smacked the shit out of whack in hip hop and it's causing some rappers to see what they are really made of. Hope some goodness comes from this

It's quite a long verse but some interesting lyrics. 300 bars is better.

Tell Flex to drop a bomb on this shit
So many bombs, ring the alarm like Vietnam on this shit
So many bombs, make Farrakhan think that Saddam in this bitch
One at a time, I line em up and bomb on they mom while she watching the kids
I'm in a destruction mode if the gold exists
I'm important like the Pope, I'm a Muslim on pork
I'm Makaveli's offspring, I'm the king of New York
King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both
The juggernaut's all in your jugular, you take me for jokes
Live in the basement, church pews and funeral faces
Cartier bracelets for my women friends I'm in Vegas
Who the fuck y'all thought it's supposed to be?
If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin' me
I'm uncoachable, I'm unsociable
Fuck y'all clubs, fuck y'all pictures, your Instagram can gobble these nuts
Gobble dick up til you hiccup, my big homie Kurupt
This the same flow that put the rap game on a crutch (Russ x6)
I've seen *****s transform like villain Decepticons
Mollies'll prolly turn these *****s to fucking Lindsay Lohan
A bunch of rich ass white girls looking for parties
Playing with Barbies, wreck the Porsche before you give em the car key
Judgement to the monarchy, blessings to Paul McCartney
You called me a black Beatle, I'm either that or a Marley
(I don't smoke crack motherfucker I sell it)
I'm dressed in all black, this is not for the fan of Elvis
I'm aimin' straight for your pelvis, you can't stomach me
You plan on stumpin' me? Bitch I’ve been jumped before you put a gun on me
Bitch I put one on yours, I'm Sean Connery
James Bonding with none of you *****s, climbing 100 mil in front of me
And I'm gonna get it even if you're in the way
And if you're in it, better run for Pete's sake
I heard the barbershops spittin' great debates all the time
Bout who's the best MC? Kendrick, Jigga and Nas
Eminem, Andre 3000, the rest of y'all
New *****s just new *****s, don't get involved
And I ain't rockin no more designer shit
White T’s and Nike Cortez, this is red Corvettes anonymous
I'm usually homeboys with the same *****s I'm rhymin' wit
But this is hip-hop and them *****s should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you *****s
Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you *****s
They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you *****s
What is competition? I'm tryna raise the bar high
Who tryna jump and get it? You better off tryna skydive
Out the exit window of 5 G5’s with 5 grand
With your granddad as the pilot he drunk as fuck tryna land
With the hand full of arthritis and popping prosthetic leg
Bumpin Pac in the cockpit so the shit that pops in his head
Is an option of violence, someone heard the stewardess said
That your parachute is a latex condom hooked to a dread

To be completely honest Kendrick Lamar and TDE is all I've been listening to for the past couple months. Ive been quoted by a few of my close friends that Kendrick is the closest thing to Nas that ive ever seen. I put Good Kid Maad City right behind Illmatic as the greatest hip hop album of all time. I personally think Kendrick is a flawless MC and has the perfect balance of lyrics/flow/charisma and yet he doesn't come off as a cocky arrogant stereotypical rapper.

If you hear his one track - The heart pt 3. He talks about critics claiming that hes the best rapper out right now and that Good Kid Maad City was an instant classic. Instead of this getting to his head he talks about how theres a lot of pressure on him and hes actually scared to shoulder that load. Even when snoop dogg came out at one of his shows and claimed that he was the new king of the west coast, Kendrick broke down into tears and that moment is what made me really truly respect him.

With all that being said, he goes HARD in this verse. There is no questioning that hip hop has become way more commercial in the past few years where rappers are just in the game to make money and get famous. Also when they do get the fame, changing who they are and their style. Kendrick did the hip hop game a service by calling out all the "hot" young artists in rap. He didn't do it to elevate himself or to claim hes number 1. He did it to save the genre and bring it back to its old school roots. Kendrick is the present and future of hip hop and he showcased it brilliantly in this verse.

*I am a die hard Kendrick Lamar fan so this is purely my opinion.

It's the humility that I wish people knew about him. He is definitely not your stereotypical rapper with the "money, cash and hoes"...

Also numbers don't lie, his G.K.M.C album went platinum. If you are akin to the music industry lately, an album going platinum (esp. in hip hop) is a rare as a e46 LSB M3 6spd stock with less than 10k miles on it.

EDIT: Just read that the highest selling hip hop album to date was OutKast's "Speakerboxx" which did 11x platinum in 2003!

Yeah it seems like these days going platinum in hip hop has a stronger meaning than it did in the pre piracy era. I still to this day get chills when i listen to GKMC, its as close as you can get to a masterpiece in todays world. Section 80 and O(verly) D(edicated) are also fantastic mixtapes.

Not bad at all.

Personally, I'm still partial to Nas' "Ether" and Eazy E's "Real Mother****ing G's" as far as diss tracks go.
