Kendrick Lamar's VERSE (Hip Hop Thread)
*DISCLAIMER* This thread may not apply to a majority of members here, but feel free to chime in!
Who has heard Kendrick Lamar's verse in Big Sean's "Control"? His verse has the internet going nutz and it's re-viving hip hop back to its original roots. Blogs are calling it the best verse in hip hop history. What did you guys think and will this spark up the good days of hip hop? EDIT: 2:27 is the part that's most controversial. Just heard it now. And was not impressed. Really annoying background. But then, I don't like hip hop so my opinion is of little value.
I'm curious if others like the above though - I truly hate the stupid background sound. |

Mehhh. I wouldn't call it the best verse in hip hop history. It does have a freestyle type flow to it. Which they don't do anymore. The music reminds me of snoop dogs murder was the case back in the 90s.

Pure fire. I love it.
His verse is blowing up, not because he has beef with everybody, but because he's striving to be the best at what he does. We all want to be the best at what we do. There's nothing new about that. But not many of us have the balls to call out everybody and tell them that you want to do better than them. B.o.B's response "How 2 Rap" is so lame. Can't wait to hear the rest of the Kendrick diss tracks that come out. Maybe it will push the rappers still in the game to produce better music. We'll see.

300 Bars was awesome. But I lost all respect for The Game after he left G-Unit. All his tracks turned into talking shit about people.

Kendrick just picked up a volcano and smacked the shit out of whack in hip hop and it's causing some rappers to see what they are really made of. Hope some goodness comes from this |

It's quite a long verse but some interesting lyrics. 300 bars is better.

To be completely honest Kendrick Lamar and TDE is all I've been listening to for the past couple months. Ive been quoted by a few of my close friends that Kendrick is the closest thing to Nas that ive ever seen. I put Good Kid Maad City right behind Illmatic as the greatest hip hop album of all time. I personally think Kendrick is a flawless MC and has the perfect balance of lyrics/flow/charisma and yet he doesn't come off as a cocky arrogant stereotypical rapper.
If you hear his one track - The heart pt 3. He talks about critics claiming that hes the best rapper out right now and that Good Kid Maad City was an instant classic. Instead of this getting to his head he talks about how theres a lot of pressure on him and hes actually scared to shoulder that load. Even when snoop dogg came out at one of his shows and claimed that he was the new king of the west coast, Kendrick broke down into tears and that moment is what made me really truly respect him. With all that being said, he goes HARD in this verse. There is no questioning that hip hop has become way more commercial in the past few years where rappers are just in the game to make money and get famous. Also when they do get the fame, changing who they are and their style. Kendrick did the hip hop game a service by calling out all the "hot" young artists in rap. He didn't do it to elevate himself or to claim hes number 1. He did it to save the genre and bring it back to its old school roots. Kendrick is the present and future of hip hop and he showcased it brilliantly in this verse. *I am a die hard Kendrick Lamar fan so this is purely my opinion.

It's the humility that I wish people knew about him. He is definitely not your stereotypical rapper with the "money, cash and hoes"... Also numbers don't lie, his G.K.M.C album went platinum. If you are akin to the music industry lately, an album going platinum (esp. in hip hop) is a rare as a e46 LSB M3 6spd stock with less than 10k miles on it. EDIT: Just read that the highest selling hip hop album to date was OutKast's "Speakerboxx" which did 11x platinum in 2003! |
