Hublot Big Bang - Real or Fake?
Got this as an anniversary present. The box is made of wood, and the window is glass with a real metal ring. Watch is heavy, doesn't feel like a cheap replica. Not sure if its the real deal though, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Higher end fakes are getting pretty good these days. A friend told me of a fake Panerai he bought in HK. He brought the fake to his jeweler who services his real Panerais, and while the jeweler noticed some differences, the jeweler thought they were due to the watch being a new model.
Something does seem off about that watch, particularly the level of finishing, but I am by no means a Hublot expert. Anyway, maybe this guide will help you: http://precisiontime.blogspot.com/20...t-replica.html Real Hublots do not have the screws oriented the same way, but they should be level. Does it really matter? It was a gift. The giver could have given nothing.
If it keeps good time, I'd just wear it and move on.

Since its not real, then yeah, I'll keep it for myself. I'm not a fan of fakes either, BUT I'll keep it for sentimental value. Its like putting M badges on non-M cars... poser

It's quite possible for it to be a fake and still be very convincing. Having worked in Shenzhen and bought several fakes to give as stocking stuffers. You may travel in a di9fferent world than I, but I can safely say I haven't one friend who would buy me a $1000 gift for as anniversary, much less something costing several multiples of that price, although when I made partner, the other partners collectively gave me a very nice gift that was also very expensive, so it's not entirely implausible that one might receive such a lavish gift. At any rate, enjoy your gift however you like, be it wearing it or selling it. All the best. P.S. I personally wouldn't think you a poser were you to, when asked about it, simply say it's fake. Surely you don't think all the women in the world walking around with costume jewelry on are posing. I don't think a mature person would label you a poser any more than they would their wife wearing such jewelry. After all, only insecure folks and social climbers are even remotely concerned about such things as they pertain to others. At first blush, yours looks real to me. http://www.watchfreeks.com/97-hublot...-big-bang.html

go on replica-watch.info some guys on there are experts.
Personally i own a few reps myself and you could never tell the difference unless youre an Auth dealer. Id say fake due to the height on the bezel screws, and the datewheel is white, gen is black.

Man thats really something. 95% of that watch is correct. The 5% may not even be fake, it MAY just be a different version of the watch, but observe:
Notice the text around the border of the back? Yours: The real says 301.M and "Gold" engraved, and the number spacing for serial number is different than yours. The fake has 301 (like yours) engraved BUT it has no "Stainless Steel" or "Titanium" engraved like yours does. If it is real I assume its simply the Titanium version rather than gold version, which MAY play a part in explaining some of the following things. Also notice how bold the lettering is on the fake, then compare yours to the real one. The rotor is an indication it may be fake but may not be definitive, look: Yours is a hybrid between the two, screw in center, not empty, but "saw" teeth around the perimeter However, Your H appears correct and your text seems to be engraved judging on the shadows Who knows, maybe you struck gold. Get someone knowledgable to look at it before you go wearing it everyday... it could be a costly mistake wearing that watch around all the time. |

Looking at the actual gears through the back all three look very different.
Look at these pics at about the 11:00 position. In this pic they are almost completely covered up: It is completely different inside than the original. Last edited by MightyMouseTech; 07-10-2013 at 12:47 PM.. |

Huh? There is a lot more than a gear not lining up. The font and engraving is off. There is missing numbers and letters on the bezel. Look at the detail on the back of the watch. There is a lot missing. Color of screws are off. Parts not even there that are on the original. Nothing lines up. To me its a horrible fake and the sad part is I do not even know Hublot that well and everything still stood out like a sore thumb.

Not really, the solid piece under the pendulum only covers about 1/4 of the area on the top two, on the bottom one, it covers nearly the entire area.

A $15k present? Ok, if you're banging some old rich lady it's probably legit, if you're not then it's probably fake.
No offense, I just have this tendency to say things they way I see them. |

Sorry buddy. That is a very nice fake Hublot with a decent ETA movement. I'm not a watch expert, but I am an avid watch enthusiast and have my fair share of watches. From what I can see I think that the bevels on the crown are wrong. The engraving is wrong on case back. The text and numbers look off on the dial.
If you're comfortable with owning a replica that will still keep decent time and be a conversation piece, then wear it and enjoy it. Just be sure you don't tell people its real. Find out some interesting things about it. Like what makes it a cool replica. It's still an automatic movement watch, which always something cool to look at and talk about. |

It's astounding how far clone watches have come. All you need is a CNC machine and a few other pieces of equipment and materials and you can bang out an exact replica for a fraction of the price that'll fool the most experienced dealers.
You're wife gave it to you? Keep it. |
