Can someone school me on Tag Heuer?

I don't know what it is but I've just always loved these things. I've considered buying used several times and decided not to but honestly I don't even know where to start, what model is what, what to look for etc. my budget is relatively low. Is buying used a bad idea or a smart one?

imo a watch is too personal to buy used (unless it's a hand-me-down from your dad or something). used but unworn is different.

these things last forever, pony up for a good one.

Well do you simply pick on which one you think looks best? I honestly don't know where to start. I think at Jared they range from $950-4200 but I don't know the difference between the styles and or options. My last decent watch was a Tissot

Put that money in your kid's trust fund and you will get 100x more use out of that money then any watch will ever give you

Failing that, I would go into a store specializing in these watches and ask what kind of features the watches come with. Decide what features you want in a watch, then find the watch that fits well and you like the look of.

Its just a watch, not really that much to it - at the end of the day its 80% cosmetic, 15% a time telling device and 5% whatever other features it may come with.

I would browse the Tag official site and see which model catches your eye. I remember when I first started getting in to watches, my first Tag was a Link non-chronograph. Now that my taste as evolved, I would never not get a non-chronograph again and have since sold my first Tag and have 2 other Tags that are Chronographs.

If you are going to buy used, don't buy it online (unless it's a reputable store) or without seeing it. Way too many replicas out there (very good reps too) and if you're a noob, you won't have any idea.

All Tags are nice. All depends on the looks and what you want. Personally I would buy an automatic, Chronograph watch. No battery replacement and I just like chrono's.

Have fun shopping. Btw watch out buying used. Lots of fakes and theives out there.

Its very personal, find what suits you best...steel or leather band, color of dials, chrono, battery or automatic, day and date read outs? and if you plan to use it daily. I love their carrera line. I got mine mainly due to the style and im a noob when it comes to the movement as some hardcore owners live and die by it.

Nothing wrong with buying used as they depreciate fast because they have a lot of fad designs. Brands like Omega, Rolex, and Breitling hold there value better because of there classic designs. Don't get me wrong I like a lot Tags and own a few but you want to get them cheap and don't think of them as an investment.

Where to start? Find one that you cant stop staring at. Then you can start asking about price range and what its worth.

I personally like Tags if you're want a cheaper Tag I would suggest the Formula1 or the Aquaracer. If you ever buy used make sure you educate yourself about it but even then its difficult esp buying online.
I would never buy watch online unless its from a very reputable store. IF ever I but it used I would first check the glass and "try" to scratch it using a key. Thats one of the easiest way to find out if its fake, I think anyways. Someone may have a different suggestion.

I'm actually looking at the Link which is very nice

Find a reputable local watch/jeweler that's does pawn. They will have gone through the watch, cleaning and verifying before its put up for sale. And because its used, you save. I buy at Leo hamel here is San Diego. They have a website. Not certain he works with Tag but worth a look. G/L

Just wondering, how are the prices at a Pawn Shop are they a "good deal"? How about in Las Vegas?

Pawns are okay. They have to make money too. But the depreciation is so much from new to used it only make sense to buy used. Watches arent like cars. They are built to last forever. From that standpoint what does it matter. Unless you feel some emotional attachment you can only have if the item is new, then by all means, pay the premium. Heck if you buy out of state, you even get to avoid sales tax. Sales tax on a 5k watch is $400..

Here's a Pre-owned Tag aqua racer thats reduced 30% from new. http://www.leohamel.com/shop/details...%20Tag%20Heuer

I wouldn't buy a tag without a warranty. Every watch maker I've spoken to says they break down constantly. If you want something nice but not too expensive get a quartz Omega.

It's one of the most recognizable and well made watches in the world and was worn in 007 Skyfall.

Tag does very well with their externals and puts a lot of detail into them, but their internals are simply terrible having an order of magnitude less reliability than the competition.

I agree, the Omega is timeless and well worth consideration.

However, I've had great experience with Tag's.

I have 2 in my collection, one was my first "nice" watch - a silver link. It was a first anniversary present from my wife. That was 20 years ago and it's been flawless. I also have one of the basic Carrera's. Also flawless.

I hope you don't think you're doing great at this place. A couple of decent prices (aquatimer and UN maxi marine), but then they have a SMP Bond on their website for $2800 used? Are you kidding me? They routinley sell for $1500 in good condition, as low as $1k a little more worn. The GMT II for $5500? That's about $1000 over market price. Quartz Santos for $3150? That's a $2000 watch at best.

This guy is marketing used watches for 30% off retail. You can buy new watches at most AD's for 30% off.
Hell I'd go even further. That looks like a $100 watch from cheaper brands like Fossil or Seiko.
