I think he blew the engine about half way through, and dropped the tranny right out of the gate. Amazing he was able to hang on and finish the race.

I might still have the one where the turbo'd Z running a Nitrous shot put a couple con rods through the engine. You could see the ground below the crank case looking through the valve cover. I'll have to look..

looks like they did that on the stock block vecause they were going to replace it, still a dumb idea though considering you can sell it, or just build the stock block O_o
