Phone is a joke! with a case on, sitting at my desk it fell out of my lap, landed on the laminate floor (approx 2 ft drop) and shattered the whole screen. Call apple and all they could say is $150. Anyone have any better options to replace the screen on a 5?

Also was wondering if anybody knew of a way to trick the genius bar guys into replacing the entire phone for free even if it has a broken screen? Like maybe saying it drops calls all the time, or overheats, etc.... which in-turn they would have to overlook the screen and take my word on a seperate issue not related to the obvious.

You dropped your phone, you broke it. You don't want to pay 150.

You drive a bmw, with more than a few grand in mods.

I don't have a case on my 4S and have dropped it multiple times and have zero cracks. Maybe a scratch or two.

Dont get me wrong, i dont mind paying it but i just think its bullshit that they advertise these things like they are bulletproof and really i think a wine glass would have taken that fall. Plus if they warrantied it then i would have 3,150.00 in mods

Theyre not bulletproof. I don't think apple ever advertised it as such.

In all honesty, just looking at it breaks the damn phone.

i thought about just doing it myself but from what ive seen online and here its probably just more cost efficient to take it to apple and get a factory screen.

figured maybe somebody here worked for apple and knew an easier/cheaper way to get it replaced

chances are your screen did not break
your glass infront of the screen broke
are the colours all leaking on the screen?
or does the screen look good but the glass is borken?

i know over here, there a few places at the mall that do it much cheaper
if it were the screen, i would do it at apple
but if its just the glass, you can take it to any of these repair stalls

Interesting, if thats the case then your probably right. there are no colors leaking, just a bunch of spider web cracks

The $150 deal is pretty good. I left my 4 on top of a friends's car after a bike ride, he went back and picked it up and it looked like it had been dropped by Felix Baumgartner from space, but they just charged me the $150 replacement fee. I will say that my 5 is much more fragile than the 4. I've dropped it a few times and the side is bashed up and the front glass is cracked, but only on the edge, so I haven't worried about it. I now have it in a horrible Otter case that makes it about as big as a StarTac.

Most apple stores will give you a replacement phone free of charge if still under warranty. Had it done a few times, if not and you want to be shady, just say the speaker kicks in and out, and they will give you a new one, if under warranty.

They don't just replace the glass on the newer iPhones (4 and newer).

I broke my screen on my 4 because I dropped it. Everything worked, it was just the glass that was cracked to all hell. I took it to Apple, and they replaced it with a refurbed phone for a price (obviously, it was my fault).

Worst part was waiting around in the Apple store for your last phone backup to download from the cloud completely. Of course you can go home for that, but I wanted at least my contacts to be on there right away, but the phone just downloads the backup right away. There was a restaurant next store, so I went there and sat down to eat while it downloaded.

Wife broke hers and got it replaced by for free in about 2 min at apple. She just said "I broke my phone" and they have her a new one. But she may have some assets that you lack.

Have a plastic case and screen laminated.
