F*&^ its SCRATCHED!!!!!!
Let me paint you a picture:
3:45PM: I'm walking to my car which is parked in a commuter parking lot in Brooklyn, NY. As I am walking and see my baby in the distance, I also see a car pulling into the spot next to it, stop abruptley and correct itself 3:46PM: As I get next to my car, I realize that there is 90+ lady in a red Buick trying to park next to me. I get a nervous feeling and walk around my car and to my avail I see this: 3:49PM - 4:00PM: I loose my cool and start flipping out on the old lady as she clearly effed up my month old car and has admited to it and had I not seen it she would have just walked/drove away like nothing had happend. She admited to what she had done and we agreed to call the police. 5:26PM: No sign of the police, she decides that she does not want to go through insurance and will pay me in cash when I show her the bill from a body shop. I advise her that, that may not be the best idea as the parts and repainting can cost a lot of money, she says its OK and will figure out how to pay for it. As a result, I quickly write up a contract stating that she does not want to go thru insurance, will pay me cash, noting her address, name, phone #, plate #, license #, social security #, and her Walker make/model. I also took down all of her DL info, insurance info, registration info, VIN number, basically everything. She agrees to everything and signs it. 5:30PM: Police arrive. They advise me that I should go ahead with the cash deal because as soon as they fill out a police report, my insurance company is notified. Also they said that if she fails on her promise to make the payment, I can come down with the signed "contract" and photos to the precinct and fill out a police report. The police officer witnessed me and her signing the "contract". This was a complete monstrosity and so annoying, now I have to go to my dealer tomorrow to get an estimate of the damages and send her the bill for the payment. Err!!!!! How much do you guys think it will cost her to fix this? One more thing, I really think that they should start road testing people over 65 years old and/or take away their license to drive as they clearly can not drive! BTW this is the culprit: -Dmitriy Last edited by Dmitriy@AUTOcouture; 09-20-2007 at 11:07 AM.. |

Is your wheel scratched too?
It doesn't look that bad. Just some sanding and repaint on the bumper should do it. It shouldn't cost more than $500. |

The wheel isn't scratched at all (thank god ).... However it is not very visible on the pictures but there are little bumps all over the bumper, I guess it moved a little bit and the screws from inside are bulging thru. So it may need to be bent back into shape.. How much does a new bumper, primed/painted/installed cost?

Relax, shit happens. It's $500-600 to RR and paint the bumper.

Dude...your luck with new cars is awful.
Why did it take the cops so long? Is the Rim Scratched? Did she offer you a "Gum Job" while you waited? Was she at least nice about it? Was her car damaged? Where you screaming at her? |

Sorry to see that your car was scraped by that mindless old lady, but it's also time to call MileOne for the M-Kit!
This exact same thing happened to me last month at Boston Medical Center, which made me feel like shit for a couple days. Someone scratched my passenger side front bumper and took off. In July, someone hit the back of my car leaving an impression of a plate screw on the back bumper at my apartment's garage However, I'll soon forget about all these crap since I just ordered the M Kit from Evan yesterday~!!

This is my first post on E90, but have been a regular on Bimmerforums. I too had to have my brand new 335i Convertible bumper (back bumper) repainted as a cell phone toting (they've got to outlaw handheld cells in cars!!) lady somehow managed to take her foot off the brake at the stop light and rolled into my new car at just 213 miles. Her insurance (Geico) was wonderful and took care of everything and it cost $608 to have the entire rear bumper repainted. First find out who is authorized to work on BMW's through your dealer. Many shops say they're authorized, few are. Authorized ones, use the right paints and now how to match the color precisely. The bumper should be removed, sanded, primed, painted, clearcoated and then baked. If the shop you go to doesn't do that, find another one who does. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It really hurts to have something happen to our new cars so quickly. I think they're like magnets for mishaps. My drivers door was dinged last week at just 400 miles, but my dealer has one of those paintless ding guys and for $100 he did a superb job of removing the ding.
Again, I know how you feel, but you'll get this taken care of and it will be behind you in no time.

she seems like a typical, nice, old lady. Don't take it too hard on her man...gotta have respect for your elders even though they may mess up at times, just like us.
Hope you get your bumper fixed asap! |

sorry to hear about your car, but have some sympathy for the old lady. i had a similar thing happen to me on my previous car, a 3 hr old, fresh off the lot mercedes by a lady about 15 yrs older than the one in your pic. i watched in horror as it happened, but she reminded me of my mother and i just let it slide. i figure ill spend some money while im able and hope someone extends the courtesy when i grow old and feeble.

1. It took the cops 1 1/2 hours to get there because its Brooklyn and cops don't give a shit if there is no one injured at the scene. By the time they came the old fart was complaining how she was hungry and wanted to go pee. 2. The rim isn't scratched, thank god. 3. She didn't offer!!! 4. She was very nice about it an admited it was her fault. 5. Her car had a little scuff mark, nothing crazy... she really didn't even notice/ probably can't even see it. 6. I was screaming at her for the first 10/15 minutes after it happend. |

OMG, the pic of grandma is priceless! Sucks that she hit the wheel. Alignment or suspension component damage? As for the bumper - it’s plastic and paint - purely cosmetic...and nothing more then a modular part. Still extremely annoying. But what can you do really...one day, we'll be old too.

I say every 10 years you MUST take a defensive style driving course at a state mandated track (ex. Mid-Ohio, for Ohioans). The cost of the course is built into everyones yearly plate renewal fees, license fees or taxes; whatever combination that fulfills the cost and makes the people happy. If you fail the course you have a couple options, retake test one of the following weekends while your license is "under review" during that time, any major ticket in that window can bring down a world of hurt. Opt not to take the test again and license fees are uped considerably as well as insurance rates. If you fail the test again your license is revoked for several weeks while you must take a drivers course on your own dime. Any other variations can be added. So if any of you work for a state DMV/BMV feel free to use my idea BTW: I woulda broke my foot off in that old bags ass. jk haha but I would have been pissed as well. She's a prime candidate for my new driver laws
