So I found a smashed up in tact cell phone
Now I found it in colorado. It still has a sim card, sd card and the screen still works despite the screen looks like someone took a hammer to it. Natrually I took the sim card out and turned it on and even though it has a lock screen you can hold power button and set it to airplane mode. So I doubt it's broadcasting my location.
I've already looked through the sd card and it has some odd photos for sure. The phone has a screen lock but I haven't been motivated enough to circumvent it yet. So what should I do with it? Should I crack it open and try to find the owner, look through their crap, just throw it in the trash, etc... |

What if they have bank account information (not that I would ever exploit that), facebook logins, texts between people describing weird shit, fk maybe they work for the government, who the f knows.
If somebody deserves to be protected they wouldn't be careless. Darwinism. I don't leave my cell phone around because I am not a moron. |

Contact the service provider and ask them. I'm sure the serial and esn numbers are still recognizable.
If you don't want to do that then trash it! Wether your intentions are admirable or dishonest you shouldn't be snooping. |

One of my favorite things is listening to mix CDs that I find laying in public to see what's on them. Given your find I wouldn't be able to resist. Good luck OP.

I know right if they didn't want their "stuff" listened to they shouldn't have left it. Typical american ideology it's not my fault; I had no control over it. I am stupid and leave stuff out in plain site to get run over by cars and stuff.

What if it was a phone you weren't supposed to find? Some kind of CIA throw away phone tossed out of a car during a black ops mission to take out some seriously evil drug lord when something went wrong and they were being tracked. What if the person looking for the phone isn't the owner of the phone but someone who wants to kill the owner of the phone?
I say smash it and throw it in a lake, just to be safe.

Yeah, I would put the probability right around 75% for it being a CIA planted phone.

I didn't want to panic the lad. 85% would have me smashing it with a hammer then burning it.
