If you care, the Honda Civic is Motor Trend's Car of the Year (e90 lost)
We actually test drove one when gas prices were at $3/gallon.
It's a great car on paper. 30 mpg city (or 50 w/hybrid), six airbags, probably the cheapest, safest, most reliable car you can buy. Only problem is that is has no soul. We did not test the Si, but that is not as appealing ($$-wise). Good car for your kid or for when gas prices hit $5 gallon. |

No wonder BMW owners/wanabes are called snobs. Can't you accept the civic for what it is. A very nice, reliable, rather refined enconomy car. Common people, the two cars are in different leagues.
If it makes you feel better, your BMW beats the Civic in price. |

of course I (and others) am/are a snob I would not consider a civic even if I had a low pay job I've been to the promised land and am never going back you could date a hot chick who requires you to take her to nice places and spend money or date a ugly girl who does your laundry for you and buys you things make your choice, I've made mine, yours may be different. |

Motor trend bases their choice on the trendsetter for the car line. Civic has all of their variants within months of each other (hybrid, engine variants, body styles)
There has been some strange choices in the past (PT cruiser), but its not about choosing the fastest or best performer - i.e. Porsche would win... The e90, is new, but it follows the e46 trend pretty closely and does not really break new ground in radical styling (semi Banglized). Granted, performance, engine, and etc is better than the e46, but its not bringing BMW to new places. I for one, like the look of the new Civic. If I was just out of college and looking for my first new car, it would be on top of the list.

That is fair comment MCS. New Civic is major change from the previous generation. Looks nice in person too, I just had one parked next to me.

I am thoroughly unimpressed with today's "kid cars".
Whatever happened to cars like the Integra? Prelude? 240SX? MR-2? They either discontinued them or destroyed them with redesigns. And the Civic will always be what it always has been-just a Civic.

Funny, I went with the good looking "chick" who pays for her own stuff, so I can get the BMW for myself. |

If my parents had a smaller budget for my first car, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a Civic because it's afforadble and the typical teenager car. I don't think any Hondas in generally stand out, but people get it because it's a good value. However, I was looking at the prices for the new Civic, the EX with nav is 20k. I think that looks expensive for something that's just a Honda Civic. ;x
