Opinions and thoughts on Porsche Cayman S

Ive been reading alot of good things about the Cayman S. Light weight, neutral balance, decent amount of power, and it looks beautiful.

What do you guys/gals think about it?

Best car out there under $60k. Everything about it feels perfect.. you won't hear a bad word about it from anyone who has actually driven it. Aside from a Lotus this is the best handling car in American. Here come the spec comparing magazine reading idiots...

Maybe....I personally feel the car is just too small....to some extent seems almost girlie in person kind of like Audi TT....in addition the no sunroof thing is a real turn off, that cabin is small as it is, very little trunk room...but for pure performance, engineering, fun to drive there is not much than can touch it....

If you're gauging the worth of a car by if it has a sunroof or not I don't think you should be driving any Porsche, they aren't the cars for you.

The Porsche Cayman S is a great car hands down. Whether it is for you depends on your situation and what you will be using the car for. Is it going to be your only car? As tempting as the car is, it probably wouldn't be a good choice as your daily driver, but that really depends on your situation. As a second, weekend car? A great choice!

When you buy a Porsche, however, you must throw a lot of practicality out the window. Keep in mind that Porsche makes almost $30k per car. That's difficult to swallow for many people. What you get for that premium is a relatively unrivaled driving experience and, for a sports car, a very reliable machine.

I thought about buying one, but I couldn't get past the mid-$70k MSRP after I configured it the way I wanted my next car configured. Porsche also has quite a reputation for their cars being expensive to maintain. I didn't attempt to test drive one. A C6 Corvette was also under consideration, but I preferred the Z4MC.

edit: FWIW, I have a 330Ci as a daily driver and didn't need this car to cover that duty. It's strictly a weekend toy.

My wife drives a Cayman S and occasionally lets me drive it (after I wash it, LOL). This car is fantastic, it is tight, sounds great, and is very reliable. Scheduled maintenance is expensive, but after all, you just spent $60,000 for a car. Our other cars are BMWs, and we are also very satisfied with them, but BMW and Porsche are built for different drving experiences, and it is really unfair to compare them.

Complaining about not having a sunroof is what's girlie. Is the Porsche's vanity mirror too small as well? This is a purebred sports car. They are not going to spoil the look of its perfect roof with some stupid top heavy sunroof. If you want the wind in your hair and don't care about the added weight lessened stiffness you do not buy a Cayman. You buy a Boxster. Most super cars are pretty damn small as well. Is a quad turbo 5 valve per cylinder EB110 girlie to you because it's not a heavy luxury boat for old people? Bulk adds weight not masculinity.

I love the styling of the car, and just about everything else about it, but i'd like it a bit bigger, more in the carrera range of size.

I personally love the look of the Cayman S. Best looking Porsche imo...a bit expensive though :|

Good thing about the Cayman S or the Cayman, is that you can bargain a bit about the price. But, you have to have several dealers in the area to do this successfully.

I'm sure it drives great, but I'm not a fan of the styling in the least.

It's a bit ironic that EVERY Porsche model sold in the USA, with the exception of the Cayman, comes with either a sunroof or a convertible top. Even the GT3 has done away with the sunroof delete option for the US. I am not entirely sure about the full specs of the upcoming GT2.

Porsche has a model to fit the desires of most people, so telling someone that they shouldn't be driving ANY Porsche is a bit out of line.

May be my next car. I will have to have some exterior mods though. The stock look, well, looks out of sorts from certain angles.

I felt less "boxed" in in a Cayman than I did in the Z4 coupe and don't forget that it has a trunk in the front and storage in the back. I used my Boxster for 2 months as a daily driver while I was waiting for my 328xi coupe and didn't run into any problems room-wise at all. Today was the first day I drove the Boxster in a week and driving it today I realized why Porsches are so special, not many cars can compare with the handling and response of a Porsche.

the cayman is the only porsche sports car that can fit golf clubs in without putting them in the passenger cabin, that's a plus too

I don't even usually like Porsches and to me the Cayman S is the best 2 seat car under $100K.

Few that I've seen that I like

I think German ricer is a bit excessive...I actually like some of their stuff. Their designs look like some actual thought went into the process of making them.

it's proof that there's a german version of the JC Whitney catalog

there's never a reason to glue that much crap to any car

yeah, the Cayman's ugly, but if I glue 10 grand and 300 lbs worth of fiberglass to it then it'll be cool

it may be german, but it's still rice
