Audi RS5 tested by Car and Driver, would rather have S4!

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

wow, 0-60 in 4.4, tested by car and driver. I have seen magazine tests of 4.5 and 4.6 on the S4, 4.7 at worst.

So you get worse gas mileage (heavier car and V8) and pay $20K more for it than a S4 and hardly get any better performance.

For that matter I would keep my 335 xdrive over the RS5 and save $20,000. It might beat me on a track but not on the street! And I will get 50% better gas mileage

I don't get how the RS5 can be this late to the game in the US (compared to the OLD M3 and C63) and still get beat by both while costing more! what is Audi thinking? it weighs more than the C63 and has 130 LESS torque! Weighs a lot more than the M3 and only has 35 more horsepower and 17 more torque.

Even the new RS3 coming out in a couple years will be faster than this beast.

Funny. guy. "It's nearly the same 0-60 time, it must be shit"

there's more to life than 0-60 my friend. In fact, 0-60 is about the most retarded measure of performance out there. Try 60-120 or 40-100 or a 1/4 mile with terminal speed. Try overtaking power from 40-70 in 4th gear. Try cornering speed, balance, precision. Yeah but 0-60 is only .3s faster so it's a waste of money ...

Really dude.

Oh, and the RS5 would eat your pretty little 335i in any measure of performance worth measuring

So your saying an $80,000 coupe will outperform a $50,000 sedan?
who would have thought.

I tell you what, look at resale five or ten years from now on an S4 or 335ix, then look at the resale on the RS5. Then quote this thread and try to recall what you were talking about.

I used to work with a guy who had an RS4. My M Coupe was quicker, handled better and looked like a shoe, but his RS4 is still worth a comical amount of money, even with all of the DI issues.

RS models are very exclusive innit. they're not my cup of tea, personally, but they're awesome bits of kit

When the A5/S5 ect came out I really found it to be an exceptionally good looking car with wonderful lines.

But now, like all Audis (to me) it looks old and dated.
As a matter of fact it kind of looks like a german Camaro to me.

It's like there's no such thing as a timeless Audi.

Although with used V8 Rs4 prices dipping into the low 30's, it's hard not to give a serious second look as somebody who could not afford a new high dollar car.

Audi timed the import of this car to the US pretty deliberately knowing there would likely be less competition/comparisons to M3s or 1Ms. I assume they don't expect anyone to cross shop it with a CTS-V. Since day 1 it's always been a very pretty car that they then tried to make fast. It certainly is a niche car that seems to be slotted between and M3 and an M6, a XK and an XKR.

Test drove the RS5 a couple weeks ago. The car is beautiful inside and out. Simply a stunner in person. The engine is superb, high revving V8 sound was a dream. Throttle blips on down shifts were impressive. We drove to the dealership in my buddies C63. It felt just as fast if not faster due to the awd.

The premium over an equally equipped S5 is well worth it. Like others have said above, RS5 will hold their value far more than a S5. But it doesn't matter to most BMW owners, because most of them are just "renting" their cars anyways.

Last time Car and Driver tested the S4 in a comparo against the 335i. The S4 pulled a 4.9 sec 0-60.

The RS5 is right in line with its competition. Edmunds tested the RS5 0-60 in 4.3 seconds (4.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout) and the quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds at 110.8 mph. A C63 Coupe (12.3 seconds at 116.3 mph); an M3 (12.8 seconds at 111.2 mph). The CTS-V (12.2 seconds at 117.5 mph).

RS5 is the only car in its class without a gas guzzler tax.

This........!!

Op, if your main concern is fuel economy, I dont think there is any high revving(8500rpm redline) car that achieves 16/23mpg like the Rs5 does. Truly a feat for such a high revving engine. For reference, an m3 achieves 14/20mpg.

People who buy a diesel S-class or hybrid 7-series? Porsches are economical for the performance.

I just put an exhaust (AWE) on my 2010 S4 and I took my coworker who has an RS5 for a spin because he wanted to hear it. He was quite surprised at how quick the S4 felt.

Some of us still enjoy rowing their own boat. This is something that can't be done in the RS5. Where Audi loses touch with their consumer base is assuming that the only thing that matters to the consumer is straight speed over feeling involved while driving. I can't think of anything more emasculating behind the wheel of a car than having to put it into "D". BMW will continue to benefit from this poor decision by Audi to axe the manual transmission in their high performance models.

The RS5 will hold it's value better than the S5 due to scarcity, in much the same way that a B7 S4 Avant held it's value better than the RS4 of the same model year.
