How often do you change cars?
I've noticed in the past 12 years, I've owned about 10 cars
A majority of them I bought used so I'm not eating the depreciation over and over again. I'm wondering if this is normal or do I have commitment problems? haha What about you guys? What's the shortest you've owned a car? longest? |

I change when necessary.
I don't really care about my daily driver, so I usually just run them into the ground. My weekend cars are what matter to me. My next purchase will be a 997 GT3...after I purchase a new house, so it may be a few years away. And yes, the 128i is a great car, got one for the wife and she loves it. |

My history is up to 6 cars in 12 years.
2000 '89 Chrysler (First POS) - owned 2 years 2002 '02 Sentra SE-R - owned 5 years 2004 '73 Eldorado - owned 3 years 2007 '08 TL - owned 5 years 2009 '01 Corvette - owned 6 months 2012 '13 335i - Take delivery next month, 36 mo lease So that ends up being an average of 2 years, although usually that's been 1 primary car and 1 toy. The 335 attempts to combine my toy and daily requirements...we'll see how long that lasts :-)

1. 94 Toyota Tercel
2. 95 Dodge Neon 3. 2005 Scion tC 4. 2008 Civic LX 5. My current 135i. All those spanned for the last 8 years or so. All were traded in for each other, but the 135i is the first one I've done extensive mods to, so I plan on keeping it FOREVA. Need to buy a DD though.... |

I like the idea of getting a new used car every 2 years or less, but the problem I have is that it usually takes me over a year to get the car modded just the way I like it. And finally paying sales tax on a car so often seems like a big waste of money.

As for normal, people on this forum are not "normal" when it comes to cars. The average American prob owns a car for several years, as opposed to us here who own several cars for a year. |

I don't have much of a pattern.
My trucks/suvs are on about an 80,000 to 90,000 mile life span (I am thinking about just driving my current truck into the ground). My last 3 cars were 3 years (lease), 1 year, and 6 years. I have a lease now so it will be 3 years. |

My dad drives cars until they die and just bought his 4th car in my lifetime. I'm 31. Owning Toyotas, that means he's keeping them for over a decade. His 4Runner just crossed 330k and will be celebrating it's 15th birthday this month. Still going strong!
