Going to Hong Kong
I'm going to Hong Kong for a week in a few weeks. Any locals here want to go grab lunch or dinner one of the days I'm there? Also what are some must-see places? I have 5 days there.

Things may have changed since my experience, over 25 years ago:
The view from the top of Hong Kong Island from the Peak Tram is nice and there are numerous trails that can be explored. More distant but easily accessible by train (Kowloon Station) is the Tai Po Kau Forestry Reserve, weekends can be crowded though. I particularly liked the Mai Po Marshes at the head of Deep Bay. Other places nearby worth exploring is the area around Jubilee Reservoir (east of Tseun Wan), the top of Tai Mo Shan Mountain, the area around Shek Kong village and the Lam Tsuen Valley. There's a fascinating egret colony at Yim Tso Ha near Sha Tau Kok but the birds may have dispersed by mid-August. Have fun.

------------------------------------------------ I lived there for a good 10 years on and off when i was young... i've spent less than $150 USD for a week and also over $1500 USD in a week for fun and eating out Get the Octopus Card (you can use it in all public transportation and convenience stores if you plan on taking the subway around (just see how clean and developed it is compare to the US) or cab whatever - go to LKF for bar areas and nightclubs (a lot of locals and foreigners, GUARANTEE you have an AWESOME time) or wanchai (sat night into sunday afternoon is great time to go if u want a little more fun for afterparty) I usually go out with a decent size group, bottle service is cheap as fuck compare to NYC and Vegas. I think it averaged out to be around $100 - $150 USD per bottle everywhere i went and you dont have to leave a 20% tip. Bottle service is MUCHHHHH cheaper than individual drinks. -Central for the financial district and visit LFC for awesome shopping mall - go to prince edward, monkok and jordan if you wanna see how the locals like (streetfood, streetfood, streetfood and "women street" for bargain stuff. you better be good at bargaining and be prepared to walk away to another store if you dont like the price. THERES ALWAYS ROOM FOR NEGOTIATIONS. Be aggressive.) - tsim sha tsui is more like a tourist area, go by the harbor aka "aveune of the stars" for light show, highend shopping area, 5 star hotels and restaurant -time square in causeway bay for more highend shopping - aberdeen and sai kung for awesome seafood. Fresh caught and you can pick anything yourself -the peak for the view at night -lantau island for disney and the big budda -maaca for casino, stripclub, sin city shit (boat ride is like $10 - $15 USD and helicopter ride is $70 - $80 if you get seasick) -checkout their actual supermarket, food quality and their cleanliness is much better than here -massage palors, spa, hostess clubs w/e.... clean or "dirty" places <-- these places i would recommend going with someone thats been there before these are all just areas you must see, theres so much to do in Hong Kong 5 days is not enough to explore the whole place dont expect prices like thailand and shit like that, Hong Kong is a modern city pretty much like New York but still cheaper than NYC unless you want to be a baller and 5 star everything. I bet you cant even afford that in NYC Good luck, i just came back from there last year and 3 weeks was NOT enough time. checkout hotel's dinner or late night buffet, streetfood, local eats. Anything you crave for, you can find it in Hong Kong. Food Heaven Good Luck! you dont really need to speak cantonese to get around in hk but hopefully you have friends or something that knows the area and can take u around. I doubt you can see all these in 5 days advice if you dont know anyone in hk: make friends in LKF and maybe they can take you around or explore together and what not... prepare for an amazing time!

Not really, I was there a couple months ago and things were fairly cheap especially food and every thing else was about the same price as here in the US.

If they're anything like the ones in Japan... I don't really understand it You pay $$$ to talk to a girl.... nothing more.... I remember i used to go when my gf worked at one in Tokyo. I was her "friend" visiting from America, so she had one of her rich customers pay for everything. It was definitely fun and interesting, but I couldn't see myself spending that kind of $ just for someone's company....

anything like the ones in Japan......
You know i've been all over the world. And the worst place in the world to be as a man with an active sex drive is Japan! My god women in Japan have the sex drive of dead nuns. And so eventually thanks to evolution the men of Japan also seem to have a low sex drive. I recall reading an article in Nature regarding Japan in which the article stated that of the developed world men of Japan have the lowest testosterone levels. And they attributed this to Japanese women having transfixed their sex drives for a consumer drive that is unparallel. Such that when polled Japanese women were perfectly happy having sex once a year but could not see themselves being happy with only purchasing one hand bag per month. This means that over the past 50 years, the men who had high sex drives either left the country or just died off....while those with the lower sex drive were able to maintain relationships and have children who themselves had lower than nominal testosterone levels. While the best places for being a man were any place where men were manly! South Africa was a very nice place especially Cape Town. Or Hungary. Argentina was nice and so was Brazil. Hell even Montreal Canada is rocking for a straight man! For me going to a Japanese strip club was like watching old people fuck. There was a lot of money spent on lots of talk and lots of moaning and groaning and poking in the dark but in the end one party just goes to sleep and the other gives up and starts watching TV. |

Good thing the ones that go to America/Like Americans (i.e. the current generation) are different. Lady in the street, freakish in the sheets. I can see the handbag thing for sure.......my ex had enough LV, Dior etc name brand bags to buy herself a GT3.... all from her customers/clients while she was working as a hostess. Crazy crazy people..

Go to the horse race track. Went there by accident and had a great time. I'm not even into horse racing. If you get bored in hi then get on a ferry and spend a night in Macau. Kinda like Vegas but smaller they have a small grand prix museum, it's free and has some cool displays.
Cab is cheap but drivers are thief so be aware. Enjoy! |

If I ever hit the lotto and I can quit my job to pursue a doctorates in Psychology my thesis will be on "The Substitution of Human Intimacy With Consumerism in Asians" I would take a dozen Japanese and Chinese women and monitor their brain waves when they are at a chip and dales show vs what their brain waves are when they are procuring a hand bag. I'm willing to bet good money that a good number of Asian women obtain a stronger more preannounced high from procuring hand bags over than when they are within reach of physical intimacy. And well 50 years and 3 generations of evolution later and any guy who had a fuzzy chest and any testicular mass died off. While those guys who wear skinny jeans and collect useless anime toys had just low enough of a sex drive to appropriately match up with these women. It's a fucked up place but thank god at the moment that level of stupidity has yet to truly take hold of the US culture. And if it does I know where I'm moving to! Eastern Europe! Those girls would prefer to have a good man with a fat cock next to them than any hand bag. |
