G37 / 335i

Yes...I know...it hasn't been released yet.

But, I'm pretty sure the 335 will be able to blow the doors of the G37.

Stats
G37:
330 hp
270 lb-ft
7500 rpm
6 spd MT
NOT! AWD...
1664 kg

335i:
300+ hp
300+ lb-ft
7000 rpm
6 spd MT or an amazing step
RWD
1520 kg

So, to me, the G37 loses on the fact that it's AWD and that it'll prolly have less HP to the wheels than the 335i, and that it's also heavier.

Opinions?

P.S. This is a discussion, nothing final. I know it's not out yet, so this is speculation.

I couldn't agree more. To say the 335 will "blow the doors off" of a g37 is stupid. Judging from the preliminary numbers, the cars will be very simmilar in the performance department. Don't turn this into a "BMW is better than everything" type discussion.

Guys the G37 will be a nice car. It's personal preference on which car people may decide to go with. It may take some customers away from BMW because of the price, it will be approximately 7k - 10k cheaper (Canadian - not sure about US).

The question remains whether the G37 Sport will match the acceleration of the BMW 335i...I don't think G37 isn't quite up to that task, due mostly to its torque deficit, fewer gears and heavier estimated weight (3,682 pounds vs. 3,571 pounds).

I'll take the 335i....Better looking and more performance potential because of the twin turbo . I enjoy my 335 - it's got terrific torque from the twin-turbo unit to go along with smooth ride quality, right-now responses, laser-precise steering, lots of power and fade-free braking. It's an outstanding car overall.

Not 4WD or AWD...the G35 and G37 have "4-wheel steering" (4WS) as an option, just like big brother, the M35/45. This allows the rear wheels to move slightly in/out (forget the exact angle degree) to improve handling.

iirc, the system changes based on speed too,

at high speed the rears move in the same direction as the fronts, at lower speeds they turn in the opposite direction as the fronts

sort of neat, if it works right

one of the most NOOB things I have ever heard... tell that to a Mitsubishi Evo owner, or even the excited 335xi order holder!

sometimes you need more wheels to be able to get big amounts of power to the ground.

btw, 4 wheel steering is a silly feature that appears once a decade before the manufacterer realizes nobody wants to buy it. Do not confuse 4WS with Active steering (anohter feature I couldn't care less about).

I do not like some of this boards "BMW CANNOT BE DEFEATED" tendencies. Thankfully some of you stepped back on this one. The G37 will be one mean car on the street, and I would rank it right up there with a 335.

sending power to all 4 does mean more parasitic losses than sending it to just 2

all the extra friction in those extra driveline componants does eat HP
