Wedding photography
Perhaps this belongs in the photography section but I was hoping to get more exposure here.
I'm doing a project for a class and was hoping you guys can help me out. I'm doing it on wedding photography. The question is: what do you look for when choosing a photographer? Also, if possible, what would you do to distinguish yourself from the other kazillion wedding photographers out there? |

If I were a photographer I would social media the s*** out of myself. I'm getting married next year and the photographers I've liked on Facebook who always post their latest photos bubble up to the top of my consciousness. And of course they need to have talent and the style I'm looking for. That's fundamental for all photographers, not just wedding.

My job is a wedding photographer so I can try to help out as best as I can
As someone else mentioned, social media is extremely important in our line of work. Ive seen some not so great photographers get business because theyre always posting to FB, twitter, etc, and i've seen some great photographers not get any work because they dont put the effort in. Another thing, most photographers suck as business people. I try to make it a point to reply to any inquiry, question, etc from each client the same day. Ive had people book me over others based on this alone. Some photographers will go days, weeks even without writing back. Some just don't understand customer service. Besides updating a lot, trying to be good with customer service, I also try to be consistently good. When I meet with clients I dont show them my top 30 pictures Ive ever taken, if theyve been to my website then they have seen those. Ill show them an actual wedding album from an actual wedding. Anyone can get lucky and get a few good photos per year, but it's hard to do it consistently on each shoot. |
