Talking Ariel Atom Experience...

Wahoo....
I'm headed out with a few friends in July, to give some these babies a thrashing.
Can't wait

Don't you dare come back without photos!

I assume these will be the North American versions with the Duratec engine instead of the Civic Type R engine?

I would love to drive one of those! They should use the Honda K (RSX) series or the F (S2000) engine in one of those babies.

In the U.S., the Ariel Atom uses the same Ecotech S/C'd GM engine found in the Saturn ION Red line and Chevy Cobalt SS (w/ Eaton M62 Supercharger); in Europe, they use the Honda 2.0 VTECH engine and add a S/C as an option. There's only one dealer in the USA...Brammo in Oregon.

Talking Ariel Atom Experience....... WOW

I'm finally getting around to posting about the AAE that I did on the 18th of July.

Plain & simple..... flat out the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car.
It took a couple of days to wipe the silly ass grin off my face.

We didn't have to worry about bees in our epiglottis, or filming an episode of Badger Watch in our hair.
They had us completely outfitted with driving suit, gloves & helmets.

I've been to several different DE & track events.....
This one was at the top of the bunch for the way it was organized and run.
I HIGHLY recommend the AAE to anyone that has access to it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....and here are a few pics, taken by a friend.
My ass headed up the road to Shannonville Motorsport Park
The wee beastie
The drivers paddock, getting ready to hit the track.
Pit row,..... ready to roll.
Some preemptive instruction
Finally hitting the track
Leading the pack out of the hairpin...
Shannonville
What track layout did you run at Shannonville? What was the best lap time?
We ran the Fabi circuit...
re: times IDK, they weren't timing us.
I do know that the car was MUCH more capable than the driver though.....
We did a couple of hot laps with a pro driver... it was HOLY SCHIT fast
We watched some P cars on the track after we were done & they looked like they were standing still, in comparison.
How was this car under braking at the end of the back straight? Squirrely or planted?
Absolutely planted & easy to modulate too.
....as long as you keep it straight & don't screw up.
-feedback is incredible, you pick up the slightest nuances immediately
Throttle response is wicked....
Your really have to focus on smoothly balancing the car to the apex, before you really get on it.
If you get on it too soon ....you're coming around to have look where you just came from
...... as more than a few found out
This car is lovely, but not being street-legal makes it 90% useless.
It's not promoted as a street vehicle,
but cars have been registered.
There were three AA's on the track during a lapping day I attended on the 15th at SMP - The closing speed was crazy - I spent as much time looking behind me as in front - and these Atoms are crazy loud too. I'm considering going next year, thinking about the full day experience. I'm going to wait to see what tracks they're going to be at - SMP is becoming too familiar.
Thanks for the pics and descriptions Ian.
