i H A T E l.a. traffic
I don't know how those of you who live down in that mess survive!! How can you be cruising at 70-80, then suddenly down to a full stop and crawl for a few miles, then back up to speed ? There's no wreckage on the road, no police, no cows crossing, no naked women. Why the F$#@ did we slow down like that??!!!!!! Yes, there was a gradual rise to the road for a brief second, but no reason to stop.
My wife knows I HATE driving down there, but she agreed since I said I would try to keep my mouth shut and just drive. I survived the nearly 3 hours to go 85 miles to get to Disneyland, but it just overpowered me this morning. We left DL at 9:45, it should not take me until after 12:30 to go 85 miles!!!! I will STARVE before I work in LA!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, vented. |

Unfortunatly its all about timing and making a point of working in the right place near your home. I live in LA and enjoy a 30 min drive up the PCH to work. By the time I get home, freeways are empty. In that condition, you can get anywhere in the city in 15 min.
But I digress...I to find myself cursing the city when I am forced to travel in rush hour traffic. So here's to nice leather sport seats, a great stereo and the convenience of iPod control through iDrive.

Its really easy. Not to hate on you Drivers that have lived here all your life but none of you can drive. Its the no signals, swerving everywhere, Not Knowing how to Merge (this is the BIGGEST thing) is what kills that highway speed from normal speeds to dead stop. LEARN HOW TO FREAKING MERDGE!!! And while your at it, it does rain here, learn how to deal wth it and drive through it, same as fog for you NOR CAL drivers, you don't have these issues with anyone who grew up on the East Coast, they know how to drive through sleet and everything else.
Sorry bout the rant. BUt lived on the West Coast now here for going on 5 months and not even the Suicide Highway in Sicily is as bad as it is here in Cali. Drives me crazy on the Daily |

Yup I go through that at least once a week, it is on the intersection between the 605 and the 405. Traffic almost all the time except 8PM -> 7AM in the morning!

sometimes there'll be like a little overpass and people slow down because they're scared to drive fast through it. Those that drive on 85 here know what Im talking about.
Some people are also doing 65-70 in the fast lanes. This always pisses me off to no end. And the thing is: they dont even seem to care. They never check the mirrors to see that there's a huge ass line behind them. What a bunch of dicks!! |

Once I cleared north of the 101-405 interchange, we were back to full speed all the way home (40 miles) There were lots of cars on the road, but everyone kept going, didn't slow down for the big hills/valleys through Calabasas.
I agree, the biggest part of the driving test should be merging. If you can't do it without stopping traffic or yourself, you don't get a license. We'd all get there a lot faster if not worried about 1 car length up/back, and didn't drive people off the road to get 1 ahead. |

It isn't just in LA. In 1999 I went to Cornwall for the total eclipse of the sun (didn't see it because of clouds but it still got dark). Anyway, on the drive up the M6 between Exeter and Bristol traffic would book along at 75-85 for about five miles and then come to a complete halt for about five minutes. Then, back to 75-85 for five miles and a halt for about five minutes. It's about 85 miles from Exeter to Bristol and it took me over 3½ hours. Didn't see anything that would have explained the screwy traffic.
