What does SULEV stands for?

Hey guys. Just waned to understand the meaning of SULEV? Tried to google it - found no answers. I'm sure someone here should know what it stands for. Thanks

super ultra low emissions vehicle... I knew it, but googled it just to check, and the very first result explains it clearly....

SULEV is an acronym for Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. SULEVs are 90 percent cleaner than the current average year's models. SULEVs emit substantially lower levels of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides and particulate matter than conventional vehicles. The SULEV standard steps up the ULEV, Ultra Low Emission Vehicle standard.

I read some posts that the SULEV engine may be very slightly less responsive than the non SULEV (not a big deal, but why get it if you don't have to). I made sure when I ordered my car to request the standard (non SULEV engine). Otherwise, it seems like the default these days in the U.S. is the SULEV.

Some good info on the N51 (SULEV) engine compared to the N52 here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52608

So if you are ording a car from the factory, you should be able to get a non SULEV. Unless your state has an issue with that. Mine is the N52K

Somewhere I saw it... that N51 is only available with auto transmission.

I'm in CA, but have N52K, MT, even though this state most likely would preffer N51
