Need to drop.... 50lbs? help
Hey Guys ,
Some of you know me some don't, but I am not the most slender person on e90post that's for sure. So I joined a Gym and have a buddy who is a personal trainer going to train me, but Im basically asking for any tips or pointers to making food that doesnt taste horrible but still enables me to drop pounds. I have a messed up schedule and am often times up in the gym at 2am, and then back to work at 8 am. Supplements are also appreciated if you've used/use them - not steroids, or growth hormones LOL Thanks in advance. |

It's true. I'm sleeping around 1am and My diet/workouts are way up there. Everyone at work and my firends think I'm insane. I'm getting more cut but not as fast as I want it to. I need to sleep a lot earlier and get more overall sleep.

I lost 28 kg last year.
I diet calorie counting (for about 4 months I did no carb, like less then 30g a day) trained for a marathon and go to the gym 4 times a week. Once you start losing the kg you start getting more motivated!! Keep at it! |

I have struggled my whole life. I have read countless books and tried many diets. What has finally worked for me is my
KISS diet: if it is Red, Green, Blue, Orange (for fruits and vegetables in moderation) if it Walks, Swims, or Flies is all OK (beef, pork, fish, chicken, etc, No sauces! spices OK) NO- Sugar, Wheat, Corn/HFCS, Dairy, Aspartame. Lots of water Any type of exercise- walk, swim, bike, jump rope, weights, anything, mix it up. It is a lifestyle change, all for the better. Good luck. |

Lower your caloric intake; that's why you're fat - you are in a surplus day in and day out.
Do you want to start counting calories and see what happens?

Stay away from glucose and other sugars. Eat red meat(steak) not too often but you can eat other meats(pork chops, etc) as often as youd like. You dont need to go to the gym. Just walk on a treadmill or an incline for an hour a day at a regular walking speed so that you burn fat and not glucose(running and lifting weight does this).

Why are you limiting red meat, but promoting other animals? Why wouldn't he go to the gym?

You're probably just eating too many calories. One pound of fat is 3500 calories. If you cut just 500 calories a day from your diet, in theory (there are MANY factors, but..) you will lose about one pound of fat a week. Do cardio. Start by walking one mile a day and work your way up to a jog and then work up to a run. Losing weight is a life style change. YOU have to do it yourself to get the results YOU want. YOU motivate yourself and YOU can do whatever YOU want.

That doesnt seem safe to me, then again Im not the fitness type lol I think a 1000 calorie diet of Veggies and poultry, very low carb and no dairy will do the trick, with some nice cardio at the gym and some actual Lifting in a month or so to even me out. I already quit smoking (almost 2 months) so baby steps lol thanks again for all the notes guys! |

Sounds like you are on the right track... the biggest thing is MAINTAINING a healthy lifestyle. If you can run/jog/walk 1-3 miles per day, get at least 7 hours of sleep, eat reasonably light, and do this all for 6 months, you will be shocked at the results.
I've always said that everything I do has to be sustainable so I never do any crazy diets or anything else that I can't see myself doing for the rest of my life. As for seasoning chicken salt and pepper is good but for me lemon pepper never gets old. Anything with citrus seams to curb my hunger a bit which is helpful. |

Slow down there man. You have unhealthy goals in mind (10lbs per week?!?!) In the beginning your weight will drop like crazy because of the water weight. From there you need to find a caloric sweet spot that will allow you to steadily lose weight, but not starve yourself! I'll help you... How tall are you How much do you weigh

Seems wierd, right? But my father was obese. He saw this PhD exercise physiologist in chicago a few months ago who helped him to lose 40 pounds in 4 months through methods like this. Its very similar to the atkins ideas.

Your maintenance is around 3,500 calories according to a lightly active lifestyle. Try cutting to 2,500 calories and aim to lose 2lbs a week. (more if you're exercising) What is your estimated BF%? You should be aiming for 1-1.4g Protein per LBM (NOT LBS) Also, .4g-1g Fat per LB (100g Fat per day minimum) You can get the rest of your calories from carbs. OR if you don't want to calculate everything to the T, try just having balanced meals of Protein, Carb, Fats - all the while not exceeding your calories of 2,500.
