Bladed Handheld Weapon Thread
Think I'm going to start carrying a knife on my persons. Looking to spend ~$50. Currently I'm feeling this easy to cary/conceal knife.

I carry this...I guess it's not light compared to that one^ but I think the fact that it is so fast/easy to open one-handed is more important than a few extra grams

Do you seriously think you will be able to pull a knife on someone if they try to do something to you? Injuring someone with a knife means you have to be very close to them, if you think you are comfortable doing that then you've got more balls than 99% of people.

No one is running up to anyone with a knife (I hope). If you have the option, the safest thing to do is probably retreat. However if somebody is already next to me I would at least like the option of a weapon

Stainless Spyderco Cricket, but get the one with the serrated edge... as far as I'm concerned - /thread.
Small, simple, classy, sharp as all fuck... and it has a pocket clip for easy access so you aren't fumbling for it if you need it (someone jumps you) and it's super easy to open/close with one hand. The reverse hook on the end is insanely awesome for opening up boxes (you'll literally wonder where it's been all your life)... and as a side affect it seems to have a nice shock and awe feel when you pop it open in mixed company. Been carrying mine for 5+ years now and it hasn't failed me once. |

Exactly. I dont fight with strangers. I dont instigate shit. But if I have some drunken retarded Arizonian in my face talking shit with a glock strapped to his belt I want to know that I have the option to attempt put one in his carotid before he pops one off if it goes down like that.

Thats what I figure. Half the battle is having the balls to protect your self and the other half is knowing there to put it to stop anything further from happening. |

I really like Benchmade knives. Strider also makes some very cool blades.
Here is what I carry every day (yes, all 3 at the same time.....) Benchmade Rukus (main defensive knife, it's huge!) http://www.benchmade.com/products/mo....asp?model=610 Benchmade Pardue 503 (general use, every day cutting) http://www.benchmade.com/products/mo....asp?model=530 Leatherman Side Clip (general use utility tool) Some previous EDC knives were Al Mar SERE2000, Emerson CQC7, SypderCo Dragonfly, and a few more I've forgotten about... If you don't want to spend a ton of money on knives, look to SypderCo or CRKT.

if you're looking at buying a knife, do you *actually* know how to use it? If not, I'd strongly suggest it...and if you're going for 'protection' get a gun.
Pulling a knife in defense and not knowing how to wield it can you get killed/seriously hurt. (obviously the same thing can happen with a gun, but would be thieves are much less afraid of knives). I know too many people that carry knives that have absolutely no idea how to use them. Just my 2 cents |

Oh knives. I like knives.
I have several knives all for different purposes. I keep a Buck knife in my car at all times, in the center area behind gear change. It's sharp as all hell and feels nice in my hand. Has a lot of meaning behind it too. In my car I also sometimes keep a 7-8" sheathed knife. It's good for doing somethings outside, and a nice tool. I also have several knives I can take as personal. A SWAT [american made] that is pretty hefty, but a nice solid knife. I love Kershaw, I also have a small sheathed knife with a paracord wrapped handle. It's got a good blade and nice as a survival knife. |
